Brax Wink Possibilities

Will the Brax Wink be capable of eSIM?

after seeing the prototype, my first though was “braxberry”

eSIM supported, as well as a physical SIM (dual SIM profile possible)

I like the Slate’s kill switches but at 12" it’s too big for my current needs. The Wink is a bit small but better for my likely use. Is there any chance that the Wink will have kill switches for wifi and bluetooth, but separate from the 5G switch, so I can leave 5G on and have wifi and BT completely off? Disabling it via the OS only stops it from communicating and still leaves the chips powered on, and as such the carrier signal is still on. This unnecessarily wastes power on long journeys/hikes as well as not being as secure.

Unless the carrier signal has been checked to have also been closed with a spectrum analyser?

These are not currently designed. We will be adding a few months of R&D in addition to what we originally plan so we are able to pack more features that the community asks for. We’re planning a few community polls regarding some design decisions we’re debating internally. We can certainly bring more switches up for debate.

Will Iodé OS be available on it?

That’s a question best addressed directly to them. We will be sharing dev kits and the source code to custom ROM developers, as we’ve always done. Whether devs go for it is up to them.

Does this mean that the bootloader is unlockable?

I haven’t seen any mention of official Linux compatibility, but I like the idea of that being a possibility for the future.

edit to add: de-googled Android is great, I’ve been using GrapheneOS for about a year. I’ve been shopping around for a mobile phone that has no dependency on Android/iOS at all. I may end up getting this Wink phone while mobile Linux matures a bit further.

Is it possible to add Band20 for better connection Germany

Yes.

We do plan to support Linux on it. Yet to figure out details around it, but we’re in talks with teams interested to port and support Linux on the Wink.

The CPU for the Wink will be more capable than the one for BraX3, so we should be able to add B20 without dropping other bands. We will be confirming this at a later stage.

Thank you very much, that would be very good.

:eyes: I’ll be watching for those forthcoming details!

One other question on hardware: I see the specs page describes USB 3.2 Gen 1. Will Wink support video-out, such as Displayport or HDMI?
