Can I use my a gps app on my degoogled phone
I use my GPS sensor in conjunction with OSMAND from f-droid and it works very nicely. I do not have google play services installed and if you download the maps for offline use it works without any internet connection.
I use GPS with Osmand (offline) for taking tracks of where I cycled. The F/ioDroid store warns Osmand has anti-features: you can’t download their maps except through their app; and they apply an ID to each download to prevent bot scraping. They do not know (and don’t care to) your location when you are using GPS on the map.
The problem with using GPS is when the app has a “share” function, which almost always means your location and track is uploaded to their servers where you lose control of it.
Great thanks! Is Osmand available on the aurora store?
Probably. Personally, I prefer F-droid because everything is built and verified by f-droid from source and they don’t include any non-free software development framework that you might find from google (via aurora store).
Osmand is available on F-droid as a deGoogled build
Thanks much!!! Is it better than organic maps?
I haven’t tried Organic android version, only the linux which is still very much beta, and I didn’t like the map presentation style.
I like Osmand because in settings you can select from several different map styles, including my favorite, topo.
Cool! Thanks a million.![]()
