Carnet notes app

It comes on the Brax3 and when I was looking it up on F-Dtoid I see that it has no uninstall option.

Also, this…

What’s up with that? Is it because its under development that it tracks and reports activity?

I was looking at Standard Note and I like that too. And it doesn’t track and report activity and I can uninstall it.

Preinstalled apps are configured in Settings → Apps → Preinstalled apps. Sometimes removing them requires a reboot afterward.

Yes, I found it there but there is no uninstall button there either.

I mention that in a different post.

EDIT:: There is no reinstall button.

I got confused.

Oh that’s it. The garbage can. I was posting yesterday that the button for preinstalled apps says uninstall and reinstall. I was noticing that there is no reinstall button. Perhaps after you uninstall. Lol.

I think I’ll wait and see if anyone knows anything about it before I replace it.

Thanks. I forgot about removing them from there. I hadn’t done that yet but did see the garbage can button.

I removed it after all. I like that the Standard Notes app is encrypted and I don’t like being reported on by Carnet, for no good reason given.

I think I have changed my mind.

Firstly, the Standard Notes app is plain white with the only color being a large blue button wanting me to pay to upgrade. Annoying.

Plus its not appealing. Every note is not titled except by the creation date. You can search for keywords easily enough but looking for it on a list isn’t easy on the eyes.

I rechecked the Carnet app on F-Droid and that “Anti Features”./ was an actual button takes you to a list of definitions explaining the anti features.

As follows:

“Tracking

This Anti-Feature is applied to apps that track you and/or report your activity to somewhere, either without your permission or by default (i.e. you’d have to actively seek out an option to disable it).

Examples of where this Anti-Feature might be applied:

Sending crash reports without your knowledge or permission
Checking for updates without your knowledge or permission

Examples of where it would not be applied - any of the above, if the functionality is opt-in (i.e. you are asked before it happens) and disabled by default. Enabling it should then also require informed consent, i.e. requiring a privacy policy similar to GDPR, and avoid collecting personal data (PII) as far as possible.

Note that frequently app tracking is implemented using proprietary software, e.g. Google Analytics or Flurry. Apps containing these proprietary libraries will not be found in the F-Droid repo.

Here’s the list of apps with Tracking.
Reporting Anti-Features

While our package maintainers are working hard to find all Anti-Features and bring them to your attention, some might remain unnoticed or slip in with an app update. Should you discover that an app contains an Anti-Feature F-Droid is not aware of, please report it. You can submit them by E-Mail to [email protected] or open an issue here: Issues · F-Droid / Data · GitLab .”

So now that I’ve tried the Standard Notes app and dislike it more than Carnet I think I’ll switch back.

Is white an issue? It is a notes app…? I’m not sure what the big blue button is you are referring to…?

Umm, what do you mean - you need to title the note yourself… You can give them any title you want.

Plus you should be using tags to categorise them… so then you pick a tag and have a small list to look through… The search works fantastically and as long as you know a couple of key words int he note you can find it in about 2 seconds with search…

Absolutely - always a personal choice and what you want to achieve, do you want access on multiple devices, etc… But your post sounded a bit like comparing apples with oranges and as I commented above some of your comments about Standard Notes usability dont’ match my experience - just FWIW…

Did you try FOSS Notes or NotesNook (free version)? I got rid of Carnet notes when I first got mine.

I did not. But now that I’m using this I like it just fine.
