Putting aside the debate about what is security or privacy for you…
I would like to run a topic with different steps and systems you can have or DIY to make your browsing more secure and avoiding leaking your data that easy.
First step aside - Internet Connection.
Avoid cable, connection that are being offer and you operate from same address or tie to your name.
Either you rely on antennas and different ways to get your internet from outside (less reliable), or you get a burner sim card.
- Setup & Configuration
Stop using commercial routers or modems, and if you have to always run them with custom and updated OpenWrt firmwares to have the maximum control and last security.
Instead DIY Build your own modem, if you run sim card consider replacing your i m e i , (if the country you are operating from allows you to do this…)
Get your own VPN server, either you get a device that already offers you this funtion, or again you DIY you own VPN server / firewall. In there you can install as well your main adblocker, pi-hole. Stop relaying on VPN offers from companies you are potencial exposing yourself, even if the company you are trusting is 100% legit to not disclosure your data, at the end they are always obligated to disclosure your information if the goverment company is based requires them.
Run your own router with OpenWrt, or your custom firmware.
So to sum-up at least having 3 devices dedicated to each function will make your connection more stable and secure. 1. Your own Modem. 2. Your Own VPN Server / Firewall 3. Your own Router . All connected by ethernet cable.
