Hi. Thanks for all of your developing.
Are there any objections and difficulties to making QuickCircle-style apps for the BraX3, which are to be used with an ordinary phone case backwards? It doesn’t have to be exactly the same as the QuickApps, but being able to put the back cover over the screen would a good way to protect most of the screen, while allowing touch interaction via the case’s camera hole.
I look forward to reading your thoughts on this.
# # USER EXPERIENCE # #
When not in active use, the user takes off the phone case, which normally covers the back, and then puts the case on the front. The camera hole exposes a small portion of the screen, which allows accessing a few simple apps to scroll through music, capture images, check for missed calls & texts, and check for weather, etc.
The apps would need to have a small interface to fit in the case’s camera hole, but maybe more useful apps could just require a transparent case.
To return to normal mode, the user could remove the case from the screen, and then tap a part of the screen.
# UI STRATEGIES #
The small camera hole doesn’t leave much room for a UI.
I think that the app buttons might need to have some transparency to allow for displaying text like song names while allowing scrolling and tapping, all in the same screen area in the camera hole.
Also, in this mode, the power button might be repurposed to select songs or act a back-button.
An important app to create for this phone would be an old stable app that allows downloading of public domain music, text, and ideally images. I think that apps that access Libra Vox [correct sp?], Gutenberg [sp?] Project, and OpenMaps, would be important.
The logic here is that long after the main features of the device are no longer usable, the device can still access free information for casual use.
# CONTEXT #
I finally got around to exploring an old LG G4 [or something like that] that was gifted to me. I was pleased to discover the QuickCircle feature, which allows access to a few basic apps in a cutout circle on the cover of the phone.
Unfortunately, this requires a small magnet in the front cover of the case, and the QuickCircle hole is so big compared the typical camera hole.
