For restoring serial number, which field in SN Write Tool?

I don’t believe (re)setting the serial number is critical, but I’d like to get things back to the way they were before I clobbered them with a “Format All + Download”.

At How to re-flash serial number after format and updating iodeOS on BraX3? @plamen wrote that SN Write Tool can be used to restore a serial number, but I’m not seeing which field to use. I had guessed ESN (“electronic serial number”?), but the tool allows only 8 characters to be entered, while my serial number is “BraX320250605” plus 3 more digits, for a total of 16 characters. A post at xdaforums.com indicates the field to use is “Barcode”; SN Write Tool reported success, but the serial number doesn’t change. I even tried prepending a bunch of spaces per that xdaforums post, eventually getting to a total length of 63, but the serial number doesn’t budge. (SN Write Tool would abort if given a value 64 characters long.)

Any guesses which field to use?

You may be able to do it by decoding the barcode on the box into numbers and entering those digits into the barcode field.

Good idea, but I used an online barcode scanner to verify it’s a Code 128 style barcode that exactly matches the text that I’ve tried but doesn’t “stick”. Further down in that xdaforums.com thread there was another idea - filling out the value with non-spaces out to 62 chars - but that also had no effect.

There are many different barcode protocols, try something that matches, this one should encode Latin characters at least.

Just an FYI, I gave up on resetting my serial number back to “BraX32025…”. I couldn’t find any tangible benefit outside the automatic enabling of the iodeOS Premium features, and those don’t have much value for me.

It was turning into a real rabbit hole. I tried many “magic” values that reportedly worked for other phones, I tried pulling down NvData & doing a binary search for the undesired SN (thinking I could overwrite it with the desired SN), I did tons of reading/research in the xdaforums, I looked in vain for useful mediatek documentation; nothing panned out. When I eliminated all options but an involved process that included rooting the phone, I re-evaluated my priorities. :-\

If someone smarter that me can eventually figure it out I’ll give it another shot. (I’m leaving this thread open in the hopes someone can do that before the thread auto-closes.)
