No app found to open zip files?

Loading Bravepipe was easy olwhen I learned to use github on my former phone in anticipation of getting the Brax3.

But now that I’ve doubladed it I can’t open it?

What am I missing?

If you are downloading the app from github, try clicking on the installer app, then click the three buttons on the top right side, choose “local install” and then choose the Bravepipe download.

I don’t see an installer app.

I don’t see an installer app.

It should be in the bubble with the settings app. If not, go to settings and search for “installer”.

Okay. I see certificate installer package installer but it opens as an app info page and not an actual app.

My phone also shows “package installer”.

I found this online, but be aware you might have to go back and re-configure your app preferences if you do the first thing; the second thing is starting all over again from scratch…

“If the Android package installer is missing, it may be due to a system issue or a problem with your device’s settings. Try resetting the app preferences in your settings or performing a factory reset if the problem persists.”

It only shows that when I search settings for the keyword installer.

It opens it as app info page but won’t open it as an app.

Meaning I went to the fl list of apps and searched for it and its not there.

I went to the files app and see bravepipe in my downloads and if I open it and click on it AND select I and THEN the three dots it offers to unzip but asks where to and that I don’t know.

Extract to…where?

I see it also listed as a file there because I tried my SELECTING Android.

Oh bother. I’ll wait until you see the last post. Lol

You don’t need to unzip an APK file when you use the installer; it does that for you.

Sounds like somehow/way your installer app is corrupted/missing or has been denied privledges that would allow it to run on your phone.

You might send an email to [email protected] and ask them what to do.

Alright. Thanks for the help. Preciadit, man!

Oh, one more thing; when you send the email, include a link to this discussion as they tend to point you right back to this site for advice IF you haven’t already tried solving your problem here!

I didn’t have a link, thought of it after closing, but I did mention that is where I was steered from.

Idk why I have such an issue remembering to quote here.

Yeah, so I got an email just now (5:20am my time) and aside from saying I should discuss it here despite my stating that I have, it also said this…”This email support channel is reserved for order and payment issues.”

Braxtech needs to get it together if it wants to be taken seriously, and not just viewed as a novelty phone provider.

@Igor_Shotsky on another thread of yours you discussed using the “installer app”. I cannot find this, as we’ve discussed, but I did recognize that my updater app has three dots (top right) and “local updater” as an option. Are the “installer” app and the “updater” app the same thing?

I received another email reply stating that they can replace my phone but they believe it to be software related and I should post here about it. Lol

For the record I didn’t ask support to replace the phone. Only need help side loading from guthub, thus the reason I started this thread.

So…here goes again.

@plamen @rik @vincent

I recently uninstalled the Carnet notes app and decided I’d like to reinstall it.

I went to settings/apps/preinstalled apps (here it says “uninstall/REINSTALL”)

NOTE: there is no reinstall option.

EDIT: REBOOTING AFTER DELETE OFFERS THE DOWNLOAD ARROE WHICH WORKED but I still haven’t figured how to sideload githib for other apks.

POST CONTINUED::

I went to F-Droid and discovered that it is not downloadable from there. So I followed the link to githhub and downloaded the zip file.

The Brax3 responds with a pop up saying its downloading, followed by a pop up saying “no app to open zip files”.

Amni missing a system app or am I doing something wrong?

I just attempted this on my wife’s Brax3 and get the same issue.

Is there a missing bit of software? Am I misunderstanding something? Is it something else?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

The zip files, when it comes to apps on github, are usually the compressed files of the source code, which I believe, is for if you wanted to compile it yourself. You would want to download the actual apk for your device, like for Bravepipe you’d want the one Bravepipe_v0.28.0-2.5.3.apk, which is the latest, then install that.

It is best practice to verify the files hash too before you install if you are going to be installing direct from github or other places. F-droid has an app that I use called hash droid for that. It lets you calculate the sha256 hash (or others formats) that you’ll see is provided under the apk file, if you are looking at the Bravepipe’s github. That is a whole other topic though, that is probably best for you to search online on how to do yourself.

As far as the Carnet app. It should be available to install from inside the F-droid app that is installed on your Brax3. If you go to the Latest or Categories option at the bottom, then hit the search button and type in Carnet at the top, it should pop up, then you can install from there. It’s on my Brax3 there. Though, I didn’t uninstall it. I can’t find a zip file for Carnet on their github, so I’m not sure what you are trying to install. But again usually the zip, when it comes to apps you install after you download, is going to be source code. Not what you want to install on your phone.

For OS updates, or side loading an app with adb, that is different. You can have zip for that.

Okay. I figured something out.

I had deleted Carnet from the settings/apps/preinstalled apps but I HAD NOT rebooted.

After having rebooted the download arrow showed up in place if the garbage bin icon.

Carnet is back!

Also figured how to get an app from guthub to open. It was just Carnet that didn’t have an apk. Messed me up for a bit.

Thanks.

I just figured Carnet out. I had to reboot before the download arrow showed up on settings/apps/preinstalled apps.

There was no download button on F-Droid and I couldn’t find an app on guthub, only a zipped file.

Anyway, I got that back.
I’ve been using “pipe pipe” from F-Droid so I may not bother with bravepipe. I’ll have to compare them or read on it.

But I might go to their guthub and recheck the whole apk over zip file.

Oh yeah. Apk is there for bravepipe. It must’ve just been Carnet that wasn’t available like that.

Thanks. I’ll check on the other. Nice got a lot of learning to do.
