Hey guys I just spent hours trying to get anything other than iodeos on the brax3 to no avail. From what I understand now LunarOS is dead and Ubuntu Touch was based on LunarOS working. Maybe there was an earlier device version that supported an OS other than Iode but to this day there is FALSE ADVERTISING suggesting that any other OS is or will be supported. The reason I had any interest in the phone was Linux, not de-googled Android. I think they should remove the advertising that suggests otherwise. NOT COOL
The problem is UBtouch is almost entirely community built. So even on other devices its slow going.
I have been able to out UBtouch and lunar on mine.
I’m working on Droidian port. Not sure on timeframe. Will report back.
Hit kernel panic on the Droidian build boot loop after ~14s. Tried flashing the full LunarOS and firmware and now have black screen only. Have no uart so flying blind. When I flashed Lunar over Iode it at least loaded to the first install screen but touch was unresponsive. Have a feeling the older firmware does not work on a likely newer hardware revision but what do I know, just an end user. Would be nice to have more information on this “open source” phone if anyone expects or cares for progress.
Still grinding towards Droidian. Had some small progress getting newer preloader back in place of the deprecated non-functioning preloader. Maybe could have had Ubuntu Touch by now but my goal is Debian or bust. LineageOS was key to building image at all, other paths blocked without uart.
Great Progress. Droidian running and first successful test pattern on display. Hopefully get UI up today
Hello @daniel
Thank you for sharing your experiments!
If I understand correctly you have a BraX3 phone of the new batch, and you flashed the LunarOS firmware and the phone could no longer boot right after because you flashed the (old) preloader (which is only compatible with BraX3 phones of the old batch) when you flashed LunarOS.
You seem to have a backup of the stock preloader (compatible with BraX3 phones of the new batch). Could you share it with the community? Did you use mtkclient to restore it? Cf the following thread:
Thank you in advance for your answer!
Sound and volume control working. Video playback was getting messed up by the audio playback before audio fix- now both working.
Made first call from Droidian. Still making progress
Anyway I could help with my second brax3 ?.
I don’t know coding or anything but can help test.
A Droidian port for the BraX3! I like it! I take it u followed that thread u posted?
I actually have sms working so I’d hold off I’m going to reupload tonight.
You’re the first one here, I think, to mess around with Droidian on the BraX3. Is that your site u linked?
Is the fingerprint sensor working? That was not working in Ubuntu Touch. I was one of the testers here with Ubuntu Touch. Phone calls and the camera were the other things not working and that is working in Droidian.
Bluetooth was working in Ubuntu Touch.
I think Bluetooth will happen soon as well I just wanted to get it out there. I think we can probably get Ubuntu Touch working with everything same as Droidian they are not that different. Yes it’s my site. I do not know about the fingerprint sensor, I do not consider it safe to use so it’s not a priority for me but I will look into it.
U got more working in Droidian than worked with Ubuntu Touch-my hero!! ![]()
I used Raspian on a raspberry pi about 15 years ago that had Bluetooth. The hardware seemed to pick it up but it was not accessible by the GUI. CLI commands had to be used to get it working.
That also was Debian. The BT problem now may be a similar issue that u can get to work from a shell if it is running a kernel with the same configs as Ubuntu Touch?
sms is now working. recompiled the messaging app to include deleting messages. not sure why that wasn’t an option before but I needed to clean up test messages anyway. “move to downloads” option for message images moves them into the downloads folder and removes them from the message app/directory also delete really deletes. Also added nemo file manager so with Portfolio that makes two different file managers. Portfolio wasn’t working when I added nemo but both good now.
