Well, I tried again to get waydroid going in Ubuntu Touch. This time after setting up a libertine container I took a screenshot of the errors it gives. I have no idea what all needs to be done. It failed the install within a couple minutes. My understanding is that the waydroid install takes hours. So what it stopped at on the BraX3 are the preliminary errors!
I did another search on Brave AI and was told this about Waydroid that gave a bunch of errors which are attached:
On Ubuntu Touch 24.04, Waydroid is pre-installed on all Halium 9 and newer devices; no manual package installation is required. To initialize the Android container and enable app support, open a terminal (locally or via ADB/SSH) and run:
waydroid init
waydroid-log.txt (3.0 KB)
When I try to run waydroid the app tries to start but immediately closes and continuously loops until i restart.
I can’t even get a launcher for waydroid. Did u get one?
I found two ways to intall. One was the waydroid helper from the store, the other was with the libertine install new package name. Both had the same result.
I couldn’t get it to download anything with the waydroid helper. I kept it open for hours and it just sat there with a white screen! The only way I could get it to download anything was in libertine but then it wouldn’t give me a launcher. From what I could tell from the terminal, it is looking for a kernel module that doesn’t exist. Maybe that’s why your launcher won’t start it?
I was looking at waydroid logs and I can see a value error: namespace gtk not available. But I have a bigger problem the terminal app doesnt have write permissions. So in the mean time I could make sure the distribution installed python access bindings gir1 gtk 3 or something…..
I heard UT comes with Waydroid. I didnt know that. If UT comes with Waydroid we can just run waydroid init without downloading Waydroid helper right?
using UT Tweak App u can mount the system temporarily in write mode. Maybe mount the system as writable and then try waydroid?
I just pause at the permission - full system access label…. Lazarus you try it first haha. Our brax 3 ubuntu touch version 0.9 should have this already.
This video from 3 years ago installs waydroid on a writable system in the terminal. UT Touch makes that step easy. I did try what this guy is doing and it gave errors at waydroid init.
He’s not using UT 24.04. I get an error for waydroid init about a binder!
