App Compatibility with BraX3 (iodéOS) – Community Feedback Thread

This thread is dedicated to tracking Android applications that are partially compatible or not functioning at all on the BraX3 device running iodeOS. Due to the de-Googled nature of iodeOS, some apps—especially those relying heavily on Google Play Services—may not work as expected.

We’ll keep this post updated with reports from both our team and the community. If you come across an app that doesn’t function correctly or has limited features, please share it in the comments. Include as much detail as possible (app version, behavior, and any workarounds if known).

Let’s work together to make it easier for everyone to find compatible alternatives and understand what to expect.

NOTE: PLEASE READ THE NOTES AT THE END OF THIS POST BEFORE YOU EDIT THE TABLE.

How to edit

  • Please sort apps in alphabetic order.
  • Please make sure before adding an app to the incompatible section (red circle) that it also doesn’t work with the iodé blocker deactivated for this app.

Compatible options:

  • :green_circle: : Fully compatible. No workaround needed.
  • :yellow_circle: : Partially compatible or requires a workaround to function.
  • :red_circle: : Not compatible. No workaround available.

Can confirm “retroarch” works, emulated GBC, GBA, SNES all without issue.

Also the following banking/payment apps work, I installed them thru the Aurora store that I have installed through the “shelter” app and run them through the work profile.
Capitol one
Chase bank
Affirm
Paypal
Wells Fargo.

Thanks for the feedback!
By the way, this page is a “wiki” page. Meaning you can edit the post. I suggest next time you just edit the table to add the apps that work.

For now, can you just add the app version you tested it with. You can add it directly in the table.
Cheers

Hi al!
Could You try these apps. They are mandatory for me:
CaixaBank (Bank app)
Em-client (mail app)
WhatsApp Business

Thanks!!
Cheers

This is difficult. Most of the apps you can download, but without an account one cannot really test.

Thanks xancudo, i will wait then. How do You download them? I think they aren’t in f-droid.
Thanks!

On Iode there is the Aurora Store pre-installed. This allows your to log into Google play if you have a gmail account, or you can allow it to log in anonymously, and then download apps.

Thank you, Brax community. Here is an app that I’m having trouble with. I see to post here but I am not sure if I can get help or ideas here as well. Please let me know the best way to proceed with getting help.

My issue is the Libby app. I use it to listen to audiobooks from my public library. It doesn’t “remember” where I am, often throws up replay/sync errors, gets hung up often, and only lets me listen to a certain point before it hangs up and then goes back to where I was before. Oh and my bluetooth earbuds can’t control it, other than when I first start listening. After that, the app is unresponsive to skipping forward, going back, even stopping/starting. I adjusted the iode protection app settings to “none” for Libby so it doesn’t stop necessary communications. Basically, it’s like it starts and then is hung up. The hanging up even persists if I force close the app and re-open again. Is there anything else I can try to get this app functioning well? Thank you!

I use it daily but the only issue I have is that indeed it only remembers my playback history (“go back”) for the current session. But I don’t have stop / start / pause issues when using bluetooth earbuds / headphones. Can you look at Long Press Libby App Iocn > App info > Permissions and make sure all the permissions for it are enabled?

Thank you @rik I allowed notifications and disallow location. I will allow location to see if that helps. “Manage app if unused” is on. There are no other options for this app that I can see.

Do you have iode protection on none, standard, or reinforced? (for libby)

I also forgot to add. Once playing, Libby just keeps playing and is unresponsive to even being forced closed on the phone itself, let alone to hitting stop/pause on the phone or using the earbuds.

Actually I match what you report (I did not allow notifications or location, but will turn those one), and I also have “standard” blocking from the iodé app.

Can you check in System Settings > Sound & vibration > Media to see if Pin media player and Show media on lock screen are enabled? I have those turned on. I know that there are some security layers that will confuse playback of media in some cases possibly due to this not being enabled. Basically when you are playing back, the actual media app isn’t in the foreground so permissions need to allow the system to persistently keep a connection to the media playing app (when minimized).

I checked and I already had both media player settings enabled.

Thank you for sharing your protection settings. Since going to none didnt help, I’ll go back to standard.

Can you get bluetooth out of the equation by testing with speakerphone or wired headset? (just for testing to isolate the issue)

Yes will do! I’ll report back.

On phone, no earbuds at all, the app performance is the same (not good). In fact, right now it’s still playing even though the app is forced closed.

I’ve also tested wifi, 4G LTE, and 5G.

The Libby app finally stops playing when I get a call or text.
