So as promised I did this test using 4 phones with 2 sims , 2 pixel 6a’s / 1 Samsung s9 / 1 brax 3
Sim card now in brax 3 installed into s9 ……………………… S9 gets ATT 5g
Sim Card from s9 into Pixel(s) 6a…………………………………Pixels 6a get ATT 5G
Sim Card above installed into Brax 3 ………………………… Brax gets ATT LTE
All phones same location / towers / same sim cards, and APN’s identical , even made a manual new APN for the brax 3 (And 1 pixel test) straight from ATT website, and same results. Brax 3 does not get 5g.
I know someone said they had 5g on their phone. I would like to point out that when 5g first came out , phones from ATT and Verizon both showed 5g icons but testing proved it wasn’t 5g,
I’m just saying this is one possible reason why a 5g icon showed up. Also note that I drove 30 miles to St. Peters Mo, and same results in testing.
Being a just retired process engineer, I took it further and found that many patriot mobile users (Brax 3 phones) had the same issues at the same time frame. This was right after ATT also had issues with ATT Air wifi. Once they resolved this, our phones went to emergency calls only. While this was 2 different services, the coincidence was to high to disregard.
I found that creating a new APN using ATT guide on their website (Resetting didn’t work etc.) corrected the problems and I passed that on to you company so as to help others.
Of Note, this is a 5g phone, but never got 5g on ATT, but my pixels using same sim and APN settings do.
In trouble shooting the first problem, the person helping me is sending 2 sims, a ATT and a T Mobile. While I don’t die without 5g, it would be interesting to see if the T Mobile Sim would allow 5g. If it did it would show a ATT problem, If it didnt it would show probable phone hardware/software design as the problem.
I would be happy to pay for the sims, could i try the t mobile sim, get the result, and then place the ATT (new one is suppose) into the phone bringing me back to ATT as that’s what my other phone(s) have now ? (Other phone(s) are pixel 6s,s that get 5g with same sim)
This would put this 5g thing to rest in relation to Brax 3 Phones. Im posting a copy of this message on their site also so the engineering R&D group can follow along.
Thank you for sharing that. Will be interesting to hear what their support team responds with. Could be some limitation on the 5G network for non-approved devices. Could also be that the BraX3 is missing a 5G band that AT&T supports in your area. This is also good to verify with their support.
The sims are expected here today (Friday) and fedex says out for delivery. I have not heard back via the email yet, however, if I receive Sims before email reply, I will call them directly for a answer.
Put T-Mobil sim in Brax 3, got cell service but no data/ 5g service
Put sim in Calyx OS 6a Pixel, 5G Ultra works great !
Went to a city 15 miles away as they have both ATT and T-Mobil Full Bars.
Pixel 6a Ultra fast (160 to 300 Mbps)
Brax 3 didnt get data. Sat in parking lot created a NEW APN per t-mobile website. The Brax 3 got 160 Mbps and 5g+ Icon, all worked.
So its obvious the Brax 3 phone can get 5g (At least to 150ish Mbps) but NOT on ATT.
So I consider the trouble shooting on ATT 5G with Brax 3 done. Since T-Mobile gets the 5g ultra, i would say both T-Mobile and Patriot mobile are not limiting the phone. Now it comes down to Brax-3 not working with ATT 5G -or- ATT issue with Brax 3, albeit since it was said to be approved , I would hope that’s not the case and if patriot mobile heard anything like that they didn’t pass that information unto me.
Soooo that cuts down the trouble shooting more then in half, hopefully we can get a resolution quickly even if it is “Brax 3 will not get 5G with ATT” , at least people would know.
Thanks for the feedback on that.
The feedback we receive from ATT users is inconsistent. A statement such as “it will always work” or “it will never work” won’t be accurate. What’s sure is that until the device gets officially approved, service can’t be guaranteed.
We’re at a standstill with ATT. We’re looking for ways to get the situation resolved, but we’re not sure if and when that can happen. Not much we can disclose due to their NDA, but hopefully we won’t have to explain and will get the approval soon.
As long as people understand that ATT is not a done deal, that’s all we can do as good people in the world. For me, T-Mobile which didn’t have as good of service (Coverage area) as ATT, has now been working fine. I am leaving the Brax-3 with T-Mobile for now, in a month, if all still looks good, I will switch my other phones to the same.
I hope these issues get a positive result as I believe in Rob B insight on security and also on phone(s) without embedded chips that track you regardless of the OS. and these phones need to have at least 2 of the 3 major carriers in order to service the most population.
