Hi everyone - I have an interesting issue, not a super big deal, but kind of curious. I use my Brax 3 as a wifi hotspot for my home. I have a large data plan and have no need for a separate ISP. I have a Tenda wifi router in my basement, set up as a wireless bridge, thereby allowing me to use my wifi hotspot to serve ethernet to a handful of other devices in my home, including an Nvidia Shield Pro, a PS3, a home theatre amp, etc.
Every evening I shut off the hotspot for my house, as a routine, before I go to bed.
I normally (to save phantom power) shut down power to my Nvidia Shield Pro completely, it’s on a power bar that allows me to easily do this.
On occasion, depending on what I am doing, I just leave it alone, and the Nvidia goes into sleep mode. The interesting thing is on the nights I let the Nvidia go into sleep mode, the wifi hotspot on my Brax 3 turns back on after a period of time.
I have noticed this a few times now. My S22’s wifi hotspot did not do this with the same setup in my house. So troubleshooting the issue has led me to determining it is only when the Nvidia Shield Pro is in sleep mode that this occurs. If I fully shut down the power to it at night, my Brax 3 wifi hotspot is still indeed off when I wake up in the morning. If I leave the Pro in sleep mode, the hotspot has turned back on at some point over the night. Almost like the Nvidia is sending a ping (for want of a better term) and the Brax, seeing this, turns the hotspot back on. It is kind of creepy I guess.
I cannot find any settings under “Wifi Hotspot” on the Brax that would possibly have anything to do with this. I just disabled “Turn off hotspot automatically” to see if somehow this might have anything to do with it turning back on.
I am curious what users thoughts are on this, and if anyone has ran into this also.
So yesterday I shut off “Turn off hotspot automatically” and left my Nvidia in sleep mode overnight. My wifi hotspot did not turn on overnight. I re-enabled the setting and will see what happens tonight
FYI I think there is an associated turn back on the next day function for when you turn off - but not 100%.
We were discussing both these over on the iodé community as a couple of people have said they found the auto turn off wasn’t happening and I believed the auto turn on (if present) wasn’t workjng for me…
However the latter I still need to revisit as I can’t find it in settings and may be misremembering from iPhone - but I’m sure it did this on B3 originally when I first got mine.
Thanks for the info Mycenius. I still have more troubleshooting to do. There could still be a variable being as the hotspot was re-enabled while the Nvidia was in sleep mode, vs a full restart with the powerbar. Also there could be some handshaking between the Nvidia and my wireless bridge that could be involved. I am not a networking guru by any stretch of the imagination. I just want to eliminate/confirm the Nvidia. I’m not sure how “Turn off hotspot automatically” could possibly also “turn on hotspot automatically” as well, so hopefully I can play with it more.
I’ll look into whether there is a “turn on the next day” function, but if there is, it isn’t working 100%
Well folks - I am at a loss…No matter what I do now, turning on/off “turn on hotspot automatically” or anything, or what state the Nvidia is in, I have not seen the hotspot turn itself back on without intervention. I have no idea why the heck it did that, I was aware of it happening and watched for it, and saw it happen…now, nada.
I guess that is a good thing. I do like to troubleshoot through to a definitive answer, but not this time, haha.
