Brax3 wifi issues (Speed)

So it has been established that the Brax3 phone (Iode os) has wifi speed issues. You can see other posts. Without answer, the other posts have been closed. Again, when will we see this issue resolved, or , stated as un repairable in which case we need to let others know before buying the phone. Thank you.

Do you have the problem?
What version are you on?
There is possibility that either the phone or the router or both are configured to some older WiFi protocol like 802.11b.

Hi George,

Its brand new brax3 phone, latest iodeos, and brand new ATT WIFI . All my tv’s, computers, older phones etc run at superfast wifi (For us 200 MBS plus) only brax 3 is slow.

Hello, check both the Brax3 WiFi settings and the router’s information for Brax3 to see in what mode the connection works and errors in the logs.

If nothing appears the next step would be to connect the phone in USB debugging mode to a PC with Android Studio and check the Logcat for errors and details about the connection while you try to connect to the router.

Also try to disconnect all the other devices to verify it’s still slow.

George,

There is no router per se, its ATT air wifi, also, if you look at the prior issue link, people have given in depth information on this problem, and the testing they did. Last, I purchased a phone and expect it to work, I do not want to “hook it up to my PC” and run some software analyzing the phone, possibly damaging or bricking the phone ect. It should just work, If it does have a issue, I expect the Mfg to solve this issue, or let current and future buyers know that this is a limitation of this phone.

I apologize for my shortness, I just retired and am done with having to trouble shoot issues for a vendor or supplier. I own 3 other phones purchased from Brax (Not Brax 3 phones) and they work fine. Brax3 still has bugs and the hardware and / or software vendors need to address them. Please, read the prior conversations that were closed w/out addressing them so that you have the information you need to correct this problem. Thanks in advance for your help George, Doug

Under those conditions don’t buy small experimental projects like those on Indiegogo.

I can’t understand what the speed problem is exactly.

Is it the number you see in the settings?

I can see around 70Mbps down and 80Mbps up at 2.4GHz in the Brax3 WiFi settings and more on the 5GHz band though the signal drops much faster while moving around at those high frequencies as expected.

Have you measured the actual speed?

YouTube gives me 5MBps(40Mbps) at 2.4GHz when downloading though I haven’t experimented with obstacles and moving around to know how this can vary.

I haven’t tested the 5GHz band enough to know details.

Do you have an actual problem with the speed or you are just bothered by the numbers?

Speed testers depend on where the server is located and their result can vary significantly.

George, thanks for your patience,

I get between 270 and 300 MBPS on my TVs, pc etc.. On my old Samsung phone i get >130 mbs, on pixel 6a i get 175.23 Mbs, on my Brax3 I get 63 Mbs . All on my ATT air Wifi (ATT sends you a device, you sit near a window, it gets internet thru tower wireless, and gives to your whole house as WIFI.

Soooo it is a big difference between the Brax 3 and all other devices and phones.

Does that help ? I can live with the lower speed, but they should be able to fix this as my samsung is a S9 old puppy and it runs faster then brax3.

Also, I didn’t buy experimental from Indiegogo, I purchased a Phone from the Brax site. Brax site sells DE googled phones and other privacy services and devices. All ready to go.

I do appreciate your help and I thank you.

Doug

The chipset supports WiFi 5 that is up to 802.11ac which operates on the 5GHz band else the connection will be established as WiFi 4 802.11n on the 2.4GHz band.

The maximum speed is achieved with antennae arrays(MIMO : Multiple-input and multiple-output) but as I can see on Mediatek’s website there is only 1 transmit and 1 receive antenna available.

For more speed I would try to scan for all the access points of this cellular router and configure Brax3 to connect to the 5GHz one.

You should be able to log into the router and enable those higher frequency access points if they are disabled.

Brax3 has been built as a 2nd revision of the first phone accumulating experience in every step and has never existed as a stock Google certified device. This is what I mean it’s experimental, it’s not backuped by some huge corporation.

I just tested the 5GHz band and it gives me 234Mbps uplink and downlink. You are probably using the 2.4GHz band on Brax3.

George,

I checked, The ATT wifi internet is 5g (Only) and provides 224 Mbps , running test thats what it is doing ( Greater then 200 Mbps) , so its not that side, and there are no adjustments. On the phone side, there is only 1 wifi to choose from (unlike old days with home routers you may have 5g, 2g etc) just the 5g wifi. Soooooo How do we check the phone . (Again, it comes back to the BRAX3 Phone).

Thanks, Doug

Do you see the WiFi type in the Brax3 connection properties to be “WiFi 5” ?

The challenge we have is that we haven’t been able to reproduce internally yet. It is possible that issues are experienced with specific routers or routers running a specific Operating System. The more feedback we received, the easier it will be to reproduce and then work on a fix.

george,

It says;

signal str excellent

freq 5Ghz

Sec wpa/wpa2-personal

type wi-fi 5

tx link speed 78 mbps

rx link speed 86 mbps

really appreciate your help !

Doug

I understand, please review the orig wifi slow post(s) (now closed ? ) as some people gave more specific information then i did originally. It may be a issue with ATT AIR Wifi (What equipment they use), I can only tell you all my other equipment are fast, and my other phones (Pixels 6a’s / Samsung s9) are at least double this speed. Hope you guys can figure it out.

Thanks,

Doug P.S. if you have anyone local, they could visit my location and setup

It could be a driver problem again like with the authentication, in that case it needs much analysis and experimentation.

What is the link for the posts u reference?

My BraX3 only connects to my small travel router but not to my larger Netgear routers. I have read this is a common issue but it seems u are not using a router. What I do to get higher speeds is use a long ethernet cable with a USBc adapter like this:

Why can’t you connect to the Netgears? It should be fixed on iodéOS 7.0

I will recheck then. I turned off the Wifi on those.

The netgear issue was fixed, The pervious posts starting Nov 7th labeled Brax3 WIFI speed… was the original, with others posting also.

Setup an old wifi router to be a repeater of your ATT air WiFi and then connect the Brax3 to get the WiFi from the router. I use this cheap ($30 on Amazon) router which uses open source Linux software:
