CAUTION from a beta tester. Get a case!

CAUTION: Don’t be tempted to skip ordering a case. The Brax3 is EXTREMELY slippery. Beta units were not given a case and this phone has fallen more times in the past couple months than my last 3 phones combined. I can set it on what appears to be a flat surface and somehow it falls several minutes later. Before tonight, I only had a few scratches and some small cracks. Tonight it slipped out of my hand trying to put it in my pocket and hit the pavement. The back is a mess including one of my cameras. No big deal for me, I’ll order replacement once available and repair it myself. If you are not able to do the same, spend the extra mony now

It looks like you have a clear plastic case on it? That comes with the phone. We ordered the black ones also, perhaps those would be better?

No, there is no case on it.

We didn’t add any accessories to the beta devices we shipped a couple of months ago (a logistic issue). The translucent case should probably help but the Rugged one will definitely prevent this. The rugged one is what you refer to as the black one

Woooow, what a mess! The back of the phone is spectacular, and honestly, putting a case on it really hides its beauty. I ordered the reinforced case and, even though it makes the phone look worse, it’s the one I’ll be using as soon as I take it out of the box. In general, I put cases on all my devices because, despite how resistant they are, I hate marks and scratches on my things. I don’t know why some finishes are like an ice rink, but this must be the case here.
@Plamen, come on, be good to the tester and give them a new phone or repair this one free of charge!
On another note, @Plamen, it would be great to have a reinforced-style case that still lets you see the back of the phone, which is truly spectacular and totally unique… I’m sure it would sell for sure. And if, on top of that, the privacy cover left the camera LED exposed so it could be used as a flashlight, that would be amazing.
Regards

I’m not looking for a free repair, nor am I worried about it. Didn’t expect a case while testing either. Like I said, I have no problem fixing it myself once available. Just want people to understand how slick this phone is and save them the heartache of breaking their new phone because they thought the case was too expensive

I know! It’s me telling Plamen to behave and give you a new one haha! Honestly, it’s great for all of us that you get it fixed, that way you can tell us how easy or difficult it is and how much the whole thing costs. If you like taking care of things, always use a phone case! Cheers.

I concur. I wrapped mine in Tape at first, then painted it with plastidip till I could get around to making something in epoxy and micarta. I’ve put it down and had it slide off what I thought were flat surfaces minutes later. Haven’t broken anything yet but I did embed a tether loop for positive retention.

From the box to a case…be safe!
@plamen put this topic on the top to avoid nightmares  and please think about the rugged transparent case :winking_face_with_tongue:

I didn’t realize there were 2 types of cases. The case that comes with the devices, I am guessing, is the transparent case. I wish we would’ve known. We definitely want the rugged cases. I’m not seeing where I can buy these. Can someone post a link please?

Thanks! Am I correct that the csaes being sent out with the Brax3 devices are the transparent ones and not the rugged ones?

The early backers will receive the rugged case as well as the transparent case. All other backers had the choice to add a rugged case for a fee.

Excellent, thanks for clarifying!

wonder if there are other cases on the market which would fit Brax phone?

Redmi 13C case is a near identical fit. Note that the brax3 is slightly thicker, meaning that the bumper protection for the screen is not fully there, and the bigger issue is that since the brax3 is thicker, the power button doesn’t exactly line up. This isn’t a problem for using the power button itself, but is a problem for the fingerprint sensor which is integrated with the button. I have removed fingerprint authentication so not always prompted for it.

Otherwise, the cameras, buttons, speaker hole all in the right place. The audio jack is in a different spot (bottom on brax3, top on Redmi 13C. So you will need to drill a hole (bumper is just silicone I think). But I like the acrylic back so I can see the brax innards as intended  . So an official case is better all around, but I needed a case as I was shipped a used beta build which had no case at all.

This is the case I got for $10 on Amazon

That same type of super slippery surface did the same to my LG-G8 when I took it out of the case and placed it on a flat surface and did not notice that it slowly wondered away from where I placed it, and it ended up on the concrete, got seriously damaged. Yeah folks, no joke, get the case for sure and when it’s out of the case, do not let it slip away, secure it from falling!!

I’m very excited, my BraX3 is getting very close
