Decoder failed: c2.mtk.mp3.decoder

Both AntennaPod and another podcast player (Podcini.X) repeatedly throw this error:

  • “Decoder failed: c2.mtk.mp3.decoder”.

Brave gave this AI-generated explanation about this error:

The error “Decoder failed: c2.mtk.mp3.decoder” indicates a failure in the audio decoding process specifically related to the MediaTek (MTK) MP3 decoder component on a device. This issue is commonly encountered on Android devices using MediaTek chipsets, such as the MediaTek Dimensity series, and can occur during playback of audio or video content. This type of error may arise due to several factors, including software bugs in the decoder implementation, conflicts with system-level security policies like SELinux, or resource limitations when multiple decoding instances are active. For example, on devices running Fedora Linux with SELinux enabled, similar decoder failures have been traced to security policies blocking the necessary memory access (e.g., execheap) required by audio decoders, although this is less likely on Android devices. … If the issue persists, it may be necessary to check for software updates for the device or the application, as updates often include fixes for known decoder bugs.

Given that BraX3 uses the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, can someone please give to me a workaround OR escalate this error to MediaTek for resolution? Thank you!

Hmm - that’s interesting - sorry I don’t have an answer but I wanted to comment that I’m using AntennaPod myself and have been for almost 2 months now on the BraX3, twice a day on work days (i.e. my drive to and from work). I haven’t experienced any errors with it to date. Interesting if that’s a transient error only affecting random hardware units, or any unit at random times, or if it’s directly related to some kind of software combination?

Are you trying to use the Equaliser (AudioFX) at all with it BTW?

Have you tried:

  • In iodé app removing all restrictions on the AntennaPod app (i.e. so it’s red for unrestricted)?
  • Temporarily giving it full permissions to everything in the app info settings to test if that helps?

These probably won’t solve the problem but would eliminate system restrictions as the probable cause I think.

Thank you for the suggestions! As far as I know, I am not using the Equaliser (AudioFX), as I do not know where that is.

  • I tried removing all restrictions on the AntennaPod app (i.e., so that it is red), and that made no difference.
  • AntennaPod already had full permissions in the app info settings. Specifically, the one and only permission that it had/has is Notifications.

Hopefully, someone from the company can address the hardware issue.

All good - and yep - sounds like it’s at the underlying system level. Will be interesting to hear what the findngs are.

@plamen and @rik can either of you add anything here or take it further?
