Entering and using text replacements

Coming from iOS where shortcuts (text replacements) are part of the system and not specific to a keyboard and span to macOS and iPadOS I can’t seem to grasp how these are done on Brax/Android. It “seems” I may have to create some dictionary in the keyboard but I don’t know how to get to HeliBoard settings. Tired of typing my whole email address.

If it doesn’t offer you an option to add words you press the right arrow left of the proposed words and then the gear to go to Settings, under Text correction go to the end of the list and enable “Add words to personal dictionary”.
