Fdroid Fossify Messages getting constant java error

While using the Fdroid Fossify Messages app (which I like) a constant error message keeps popping up over and over. Any ideas how to resolve?

Error: java.lang.NullPointerException

Hey TCG,
I am using the same app with no problems. Have you tried to remove it and re-install it?

I was going to do that, but I don’t see an uninstall option. Maybe a system app?

Click on Settings, Apps, Preinstalled apps, Communication, Messages. Click the trash can, reboot, re-install. Does that work?

Did all that and still getting that error. The app works, but that error popup gets annoying :-).

You could try resetting the storage for it: Long Press > App Info > Storage & cache > Clear storage. Then if you use MMS go back into Settings and re-enable sending group messages as MMS instead of single SMS

I tried clearing storage and re-enabled MMS for Groups. Still getting the error.

Something I unintentionally left out of my post was a huge number of messages were transferred from an iPhone. I wonder if there is some incompatibility there.

Hey TCG,
Just out of curiosity, did you disable imessage before transferring the sim to the Brax3?

I did not. Should I have? Dang!

Yes. Maybe this will be the solution. Reboot the Brax3 after doing this. It might take a few minutes to start working properly.

I tried the Apple thing to deregister iMessage. Still getting that error. I guess I’ll just live with it. The app works great, except for that java error.

Thanks for all the help.

it really seems like something in the messages database must be corrupt or something (and I would suspect the initial bulk import caused this, as I don’t know of others ever reporting this issue). Your messages db is separate from the app itself (that is why when you clear the storage / cache of the app your messages aren’t erased).

With group MMS messages the “export / import” of the Messages app will possibly mess them up a bit, so better is to use SMS Import / Export from F-Droid. With it, you could export all messages (including MMS), then wipe the messages db, and then import the saved export. Possibly that would clean up error.
