Fossify Message

I am unable to text a video of any size on my BRAX III phone using the Fossify message app. I get an error message that says ‘Attachment size exceeds max MMS limit.’

Called TMobile - they said it was not an issue with their service.

Any suggestions? Is the answer as simple as a Setting problem?

Same annoyance here. Only workaround I’ve found is a third party app like signal (molly), telegram… It’s almost designed to encourage third party usage beyond very basic sms use

Sorry that you have the same problem. It’s a bit frustrating, to say the least. Why won’t they fix it??? I’ll check out Signal.

How big is the file you’re trying to send via Fossify?
And what is the limit from TMobile? They are lying if they say there is no limit. There is always a limit on MMS file size, otherwise you can smash their network.

Thanks for your help on this. I’ll call T-Mobile again.

Here is the video info…
Mp4 - 2.0MP - 1920x1080

I don’t know what MP stands for ???

MP stands for Mega Pixel - the video/picture resolution.

The higher the MP of the images, the higher the file size.
I suggest that you check the file size - you can see the file size when you open the app called “Files”. Then navigate to your file.
If it’s a video/picture you’ve taken with your camera, you can find it in: DCIM > Camera

I’ve just taken a 4 second video at max resolution (the default on the camera app). The file size is 9.6MB. I also made a 4 second video at smaller resolution (480p) and the file size is 2.5MB.

I found this post on Tmobile’s forum where the user states that the limit is 1MB: https://www.t-mobile.com/community/discussions/android/mms-text-pic-over-1mb/79398

I suggest that you reconfirm the file size limit on MMS directly with Tmobile support.
If it really is 1MB, you will need to find a way to compress the file size significantly to fit in 1MB size.

Id suggest using something like Dropbox. Somewhere you can upload any file. Then sent your recipient a link.
Remember, texting apps, were created in an ara where you were allowed a certain number of characters. Now, with the ‘megapixel’ cameras. They (manufactures) make it difficult to take low res images.

This is a good suggestion.

I’d also add that I wouldn’t trust the telco to respect my privacy when sending or receiving SMS/MMS. I’d also opt in for an encrypted messenger (similar to Signal), or sharing a password protected link to a cloud provider I trust.

Thanks guys! Appreciate all the input! I’ll dig around some more.

Texting a short video on my Verizon iPhone was never an issue. Still…I’d rather have the privacy of my BRAX phone.

Oh, hey, is there an encrypted message app you can recommend? I just started using Fossify because it came loaded on the phone.

Yeah - I can’t imagine any MMS network you can easily send files of any meaningful size over, especially video as they are especially big.

Can peobbly be confusing because people sometimes may not realise iMessage, FB Messenger, WhatsApp, etc, are not the same as MMS.

I would use fossify only when SMS is a must use - 2FA, booking parking slot (in some EU countries).
Otherwise, I will use an encrypted messenger for all exchanges with friends and family. Signal, Session, Wire, Threema are all decent options. There are other open source ones that are good as well.

Yes - and for Signal consider Molly versus the stock app!

If interested link for Molly is in first post here:

Yes. I have the same issue. I switched from PureTalk to Metro(tmobile) thinking this was the issue. LOL. at least I have a cheeper phone bill now.
To, solve my issue, I installed “Signal” it does everything I use to on iMessage. I can even “facetime” with it. My parents and wife are not too happy about having to install a new app. But if they want videos of the grandkids… this is the only way

That’s a smart way to push people towards privacy. Haha!

I second the Molly suggestion for Signal fork.

Threema is another messenger. I actually prefer it, because it allows anonymous signup with no phone number or ID, but it is not free & not as large a community as Signal & the others so it puts a lot of people off. That said I don’t do community chat on any of these messengers. I only message with people I peraonally know so works for my purposes.
