  2. Will I still need wifi and Internet provided by a 3rd party?
  3. Will the tablet be “Set Up”, i.e. ready to use when I get it?
  4. Will I still need Malware protection?
  5. Will Media Tec’s phone number be provided for support as noted on advertising?

Hey there Lillian.

  1. You don’t need a VPN to use the device. But you can install any VPN you like if you want to use one.
  2. Yes, just like with any mobile device basically.
  3. Yes, it’s a “plug and play”. Will come installed with BraxOS, with easy updates over the air (you update by simply accepting the new version). You can install another OS (android or linux) manually by following guides we will share.
  4. Same as with the VPN.
  5. We provide support, not MediaTek. You can ask here in the forums, and you will get help. If you decide to run an OS other than BraxOS, you can also write in the forum of the developers of that OS (we’re planning to support multiple Operating Systems on the open_slate)
  6. Yes, there will be regular updates on the official Operating Systems - BraxOS and Ubuntu. For non-official/community, it depends on the maintainers of these OS, but for the most part hte answer is yes.

I must of dozed off for a few weeks (I have the brax3 so I trust the process and don’t hover the forum as much as I did the brax3)
…so now its shipping with BraxOS NOT Ubuntu?
… my Brax3 is iode, so braxOS is something different? is it Linux?

It was always planned to ship with their android system “BraxOS”, Ubuntu will simply be an officially supported Linux distro at launch. So nothing new.

oh i see. Thanks. for some reason I just remember Ubuntu touch part of the adnvert. and I said to myself. this is my chance to get completely away from my Mac & PC.

If Ubuntu is production ready before we’re ready to ship, we can also ship with it too. We don’t want to commit to shipping with it until we’re sure, and it’s out of our control for the most part.
