Ok first I ordered what they call “bring your own phone” sim kit from their website, and they only had one offered. And when it came, when I tried to activate it after entering the IMEI the site kept asking “do you have another sim card?” Finally it said it wasn’t compatible but “don’t worry we got your back” and sent me to another page to buy ANOTHER sim card. It looked exactly the same as the first.
I ordered it and later found the carrier list here and sure enough the first sim card was for Verizon. When the second card arrived it was for T-mobile. And this time no problem activating it and the Brax3 sees it fine. However, it says no network available. I know T-mobile is in my area as I have a hotspot with a T-mobile sim card and it works fine.
Am I missing something? I did have the Brax3 off when I inserted the sim, and have rebooted it several times. It also has been over 3 hours since activation.
Have you checked if you have the correct APN assigned? With most carriers, the APN should be automatically selected, but with some, you need to manually add it?
If the APN is set up correctly, I can’t think of other issues you could troubleshoot by yourself. Will be best to contact their support directly if you haven’t done so. They should be able to see what’s the issue in the backend.
I did look at the APN, there are two available and I tried them with no change. It still says no service. When I activated the card the instructions were simple:
-Insert the Sim
-Make a call, if it doesn’t connect, reboot your phone and try again
-Once your phone is active you may get a text message to update your settings. If you do not receive a text and your data does not work test APN to 611611
Obviously something is amiss. I have seen others post about using tracfone and I thought I would ask here before I tried contacting them hoping it was something simple I was overlooking. But I guess not.
For what it’s worth, I use Tracfone on my BraX3 without any problems. I did need to use the dual-sim kit and use “SIM B” (which is for the T-Mobile network instead of Verizon). But it all just worked, and pretty quickly. Tracfone is very much a get-what-you-pay-for, with cheap rates but, uh, hit-or-miss customer service.
Just a couple things to check, though I’m not sure what to do with the results of them one way or the other:
Can you log onto your account on Tracfone’s site and see that the SIM card is active there?
Can you try the SIM card in some other phone, just to see if it works there?
I can and I did. It is active there. And sadly I don’t have another phone to try it with. I contacted them tonight and they are sending another SIM card. They are of the thought it is defective. I hope that is the case.
