Does anyone know if the Brax3 can use the built-in microphones on bluetooth connected hearing aids? The phone quickly connects its speaker output to hearing aids, but a call still requires speaking into the Brax3 microphone. Is there a way to configure this? Is this a limitation of the bluetooth in the Brax3? My previous phone was a de-googled Pixel, and the hearing aid microphones worked flawlessly, allowing true hands free use.
I remember an older post about someone using a hearing accessibility device but he was using its app as far as I remember.
Your problem should be some setting or bug. What device are you using exactly ?
My Apple AirPod4’s with perfectly with the BraX3, for calls (multiple times a day) and everything else I’ve tried so far. So assuming your hearing aid is essentially a standard audio device - from a bluetooth perspective - I’d expect it should be working…
In Settings > Connected Devices > Hearing Aid Name (click the cog symbol) under Audio Device Type does it say Headphones or something else?
Also is the button for Phone Calls enabled.
There is no specific “Audio Device Type” heading, but it clearly indicates under device details that it sees the device as a hearing aid. There is no button for “Phone calls enabled”
These hearing aids are Oticon Intent 1 miniRITE
The phone recognizes them as hearing devices, each with their own bluetooth address. The hearing aids indicate that one may also answer a call by tapping the hearing aid when a call is received, but that function has never worked for me on this mobile device or the previous Pixel 6 device.
“Hearing aid” suggests that whatever microphones are used only for sound amplification and not to be returned to the phone.
Do you have any option to select another model or type of device?
Does the device itself have any selection as to how to be used?
There is no selection for an alternative model or device type. Both devices (mobile and hearing aids) indicate ASHA compliance . Re-pairing the hearing aids to the device is no help. The hearing aid’s microphone has never functioned on this mobile device.
On Aurora store I can find the Oticon companion app which can’t be downloned for the moment while on APKPURE there are 2 more apps for remote control and touch control.
The companion is an XAPK file and should be extracted or use an installer so I will try it later when Aurora works.
The Companion App was installed from Aurora Store - It is version 1.6.1
Does it help you in any way?
The companion app is necessary in order to access the settings of the hearing aids. Volumes can be adjusted, hearing aids can be muted, frequency equalization, battery SoC… etc. All function. There is no setting parameter for the microphone within the hearing aids offered in the app.
Do you have any other Bluetooth hands-free to test with Brax3?
I do not. However, it may be possible to “borrow” some wireless mobile headphones to test their functionality. I will pursue this.
Yeah - clearly identifies via Bluetooth Driver as a different device type to headphones, I suspect it’s the device telling BraX3 it’s not a Headset. Do you have access to another persons stock Google Android phone you can pair with and see what it shows as - i.e. Headphones or Hearing Aid? Likewise did it work how you want with a stock Android before you got the BraX3, or same issue?
If it does the latter in either case it’s probably not the BraX3 or iodéOS I think - it’s a core Android thing, or more likely the device config/firmware settings that tell the phone what it is.
“Oticon hearing aids can also enable you to have hands-free calls and stream music and audio to your hearing aids from Android devices. To do this directly, your Android device must support Bluetooth® LE Audio or Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA). Select Android phones with Bluetooth LE Audio can also enable you to have hands-free calls. If your device does not support LE Audio or ASHA technology, you will need an accessory such as ConnectClip or Easy LE Adapter to enable audio streaming from your hearing aids.”
I suspect BraX3 and iodéOS do not have Bluetooth® LE Audio or Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) by default (@plamen if you see this can you confirm), so you will need an accessory: ConnectClip or Easy LE Adapter.
Both devices (mobile and hearing aids) indicate ASHA compliance . The hearing aids are not a headset and should not be identified as one. Like the previous mobile device, CalyxOS Pixel6, the Brax3 identifies them properly as hearing aids. The hearing aids full function are far more than simple headsets and the app controls the hearing aids and all its functions as intended. The only function Brax3 does not use, is the hearing aid mounted microphones, but does output sound via bluetooth to the hearing aids. If I were to guess, I believe this is a bluetooth version issue or a simple OS tweak.
