I have an old YT account and I primarily watch YT on a Samsung Smart TV. The account was created in Gmail and using a YT userid that ties it easily to me - this done long before I knew the perils of such actions (when YT was not owned by Google). I have various playlists that I have created to store videos of interest and I have subscriptions to various channels (like Rob’s) that I want to keep current on. I have laptops set up both using Windows 11 and a separate one with Zorin 18. I use VPN on all laptops and a desktop but not on the TV. My watch history and search history is disabled to avoid Google snooping on what I watch. I understand that this still doesn’t stop them snooping in the background but they are a little less obvious.
I would like to take the next step and create a new account that Google cannot track or associate directly with me. I intend subscribing to the same channels I currently follow and will probably recreate the playlists I use the most.
Is what I am asking for impossible to do or can somebody help me by walking me through the steps necessary to do this as well as pointing out any restrictions I need to be aware of?
What do you need the account for? Create files with playlists and bookmark the channels you like. You should be able to check automatically for new videos on those channels through some add-on on Firefox or some script, maybe even yt-dlp can do this.
My current account and my user ID are too close to my legal name and that concerns me, which is the first issue.
Call me paranoid but I’ve seen enough over the last few years to know how simply following certain channels, especially ones that contradict the government narrative, can get you unwanted attention no matter if watching those channels is constitutionally legal.
Most of us following Rob are already doing everything possible to mitigate against this. It is not 100% achievable but there has to be a better way to do this than I am currently doing.
Yes, I said that you don’t need an account. Find a simple TV and connect it to Brax or some other computer to watch YouTube through a browser.
Now YouTube needs a phone number, Rob has said that you can use your phone number and then remove it because YouTube probably won’t keep it for security reasons.
they didn’t ruin anything, all this titanic infrastructure like the intercontinental submarine cables weren’t laid just for you to have fun, or more accurately they were laid for you to have easy fun in order to lead the world to specific social changes and experimentation
It’s just a Linux distribution, Linux is basically the kernel and every distribution utilises a combination of a packaging system(e.g. apt, pacman), a Graphical User Interface(e.g. Gnome, KDE), a service manager (usually systemd) and some type of C libraries(usually glibc), some distributions also take advantage of BusyBox for running commands (usually in embedded systems like routers).
Less technically, a computer operating system like Microsoft windows or apple os, with its own set of similar programs and apps. But, open source and not subject to bloatware, and monitoring, data harvesting etc etc. A more pure computing experience.
Mint is just one of the versions of Linux, providing a user interface in a certain style. There are others.
Most linux distros allow you to test the distro out first. Without installing. Its just a bit slower because it’s operating from your instalation medium
Each will have instructions on how to burn a cd( dvd), or install on a USB stick.
Then try it (them) out
I have linux mint, mx linux, Fedora. On multiple computers
