I recently updated to 7.7 and all seems to work except news and updater check. The news does not show the 7.7 changes and updater fails to check. As a result the check date hasn’t changed from initial update day. Anyone experiencing this?
As you saw, the updater has completely been revamped in LineageOS. We had to reimplement all our changes, actually done in that 7.7 beta. It must be mentioned that some features are actually broken and will be fixed in the next beta: local updates and non-streamed updates. The default behavior (streamed updates, first switch in preferences) hopefully works as expected.
As before, the recent changes button opens News, which only displays changes for official releases, not beta. Changes in the beta versions are only given and discussed in the beta testing group on matrix/telegram.
Due to a change in the updater internal preferences management, the user settings are lost: if you want to continue installing betas, you need to switch to the beta channel in the preferences.
Another change concerns the OTA metadata file format, which is not updated on the Brax Tech side yet. So: update checks for official releases will fail, probably until the next official release is available. However, if you switch to the beta channel, you may see that no new update is available, as beta updates are managed at iodé and thus the OTA metadata is up-to-date.
Vincent. Thanks for the response. So, I will admit that there is some confusion on my part. Yes I did install the beta version of 7.6 and it seemed to work well with the exception of live streaming that would freeze the entire phone for about 30 seconds then work for another random amount of time and freeze again.
When the 7.7 showed up, I don’t recall it referencing beta anywhere? Never-the-less, the beta option is turned off by default in this version.
Please clarify for me, that when the next update comes I will automatically get access or is there something else that I need to do on the phone?
You nentioned a telegram channel - what is the actual channel name so that I can join.

You do not need to do anything special, you will see next updates when they are available. The beta group can be joined on matrix (#iodeOS:matrix.org) or telegram (Telegram: Join Group Chat) - they are coupled.
