iodeOS wifi connection issues

This is a rational choice. I am working on an Linux Arch version for a portable “Smart Manjaro”. Not many dev’s working on this solution. If you have not tried Linux Distros I recommend Manjaro to try first. It will urge you to refrain from Distro hopping the many Deb/Ubuntu based distros like most “normies”.

Hi all. Posting a new update.
LineageOS is now booting on the BraX3. We’re in the process of testing the WiFi with in the environment reported where it’s not working. WiFi was tested and working with several routers already. I will post an update once we’ve done a proper QA on our end as well, testing on rotuers that are affected currently.

If the WiFi works on LineageOS, pushing a fix on iodeOS becomes trivial.

Thanks for the update. How do you switch to LineageOS?

LOS will first serve as a way to get iode more stable. Hopefully LOS dev community will take the project over and maintain it like they do other projects. When/if that happens, we can share guides on how to install.

If I read your posts correctly, the Lineage OS “fix” should flow down to iodeOS fork without having to reinstall the OS; Correct?

Or, is the plan to switch concentration over to running Lineage OS and deprecate iodeOS?

Just seeking clarification…

On my TP-Link Deco Wifi setup I can connect just fine but the Brax3 (iode 6.6 & 6.8) won’t automatically connect and it reports that there is no internet (but I have great internet connection).
Is this the problem that people aare seeing or is this somthing else?

You understood it correctly.

I am getting tired of waiting for a solution to this wifi connectivity issue, and I am also running a roughly 15 year old Linksys router just for wifi (connected to the pi4 Brax router). Perhaps I should just upgrade to a newer router with better security features anyway.

Can someone please recommend a router that is NOT having any compatibility issues with the Brax3? Preferably one with no mesh network or other extra stupid features. Something simple that I can simply use for Wifi connectivity and can connect via ethernet to the Brax router? Please post a link if possible. Thanks.

Best to refer to the table of wifi routers that were tested (see the description of this post) iodeOS wifi connection issues
The green dot indicates that the Brax3 running iode successfully connects to it. Of course, there are many more routers that connect successfully, but we couldn’t know for sure as not all users are reporting when it works (we have about 5000 BraX3 delivered running iodeOS).

I just bought a GL-SFT1200 (Opal) from Amazon for $35.00. It worked with my Brax3. So far not connection issues.

i am sorry i dont understand this .. can someone explain this in normal words what this means ? will the phone automatically connects again to wifi with the fix or we need to do something for that? thnx

It hopefully will when the new update for iode OS is released.

Iode is the operating system on the phone as it was shipped.

Problem is, without currently working WIFI, you will have to use the phone carrier data (if you have it) to download and apply the update and it can be 3 to 3.5 GB of data.

A raspberry pi 4B works as an AP with RaspAP installed. I am using it now with Brax3. Was pretty easy.

Thought it might help someone.

:clap:t2:Bravo!! I was going to try this later today. I just got the phone yesterday and ran into these problems.

ASUS RT-AC86U IODEOS 6.8 just downloaded tested (25 Oct 1984+41) but no connection with this router. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE THE WPA SETTINGS - Can anyone help with that? I see where we can change some things in Advance Settings but we can’t find it there.

Your WPA settings are in the router settings, under Advanced Settings on the left, then Wireless, then the General tab, then in Authentication Method. At least I am pretty sure they are, as I have a similar router AC66U, and mine are there. Though, I couldn’t get it to connect no matter what options I chose.

So, what I did was enable the Guest network, but with MAC address filtering enabled so that only my Brax3 could connect to it and any other device that tries is blocked.

In the router on the left I chose Guest Network under General, then next to the 5 GHz network (rather than the 2.4 GHz, that is slower) I tapped on the first Enable button, then chose Yes to Hide SSID, gave it a unique name in Network Name (SSID) field, (one I could easily remember for when I type it into my phone when trying to add the hidden Wi-Fi to connect to, like “happy_kitty”), then chose Open System in Authentication Method, made sure to leave Access Intranet as Disable (that protects your home network setup in the router), had Router only in Guest network on AiMesh, and first I left the Enable MAC Filter as Disable, then rebooted the router. I left MAC Filter Disable first so I could connect to the hidden Wi-Fi with my Brax3, then be able to select the phone MAC address that shows up once I was connected to add it to the Allow list, to allow only that MAC address to connect, and all others are blocked.

Now connect to that “happy_kitty” hidden network in your phone after router reboot. Go to Network & Internet, tap Internet, scroll down and tap + Add network, in the SSID field put happy_kitty (you could use the qr-code too if you want), for security leave it as none, in hidden network chose yes, in privacy chose used device mac address, and tap save. It should connect and you should hopefully have internet to your phone now. Test that.

Now you want to set the Brax3 mac address in the Allow list of your guest network. So,back in the router settings under General on the left then tap guest network, tap on the details where you should see “happy_kitty” or whatever you used, then in Enable MAC Filter chose Accept, then under Client Name (MAC Address) on the right of that drop down tap the red down triangle, you should see your Brax3 there, probably named android-dhcp-15 (whatever your device name is here), tap on it in that drop down list, it will populate with the Brax3 device mac address, tap the + right of that under Add / Delete, then tap the Apply button. You may need to reboot the router again here after it refreshes, I did. Then reconnect once it all comes back up.

You could try connecting another device to the same hidden wifi ssid to test and see that you have your router set to only allow your Brax3 and no other devices.

It should be known though, hiding an SSID and MAC filtering aren’t effective against hackers, but this is on a guest network, so maybe the worst that can happen is they use your internet connection to slow down the other devices, though I am no expert MAC Address Filtering and Hiding SSID Won’t Protect Your Wi-Fi Network

This WiFi connectivity problem is exacerbated by a failure to update that table of compatible and incompatible routers as customers have been posting results right here in this thread.

At this time,I know of four routers that should have been added to the table, but such posts are apparently being ignored.

Sigh…

Did you see the announcement of the IodeOS 6.9 beta that supposedly fixes the WIFI connectivity issues?

You have to download the installer from here: beta · master · ota / ota · GitLab

You want the 6Vx for the Brax3; which is UpdaterBetaIode6Vx.apk

"Thanks to user “David” on Brax.me website for this information.)

Download to phone, backup phone with Seedvault to be safe (default backup app on IodeOS), launch the installer, let it install and reboot to apply the patch.

I did and it fixed my 5G connection to my router, allowing WPA2-PSK with AES encryption to connect. Strangely enough, it didn’t fix the 2.5G connection on the very same router, so your mileage may vary.

On the JRS Eco router, I was able to use “Open Network” and the wifi works. This is even after updating to the latest version of iode (v. 6.8). This is not ideal and I hope to be able to switch to WPA2 after the issue is resolved, but at least I can download apps and get the phone setup.

Apparently this fixes the wifi calling issue too, which i need. Ive never downloaded a beta before and am not that tech savvy. How long does it usually take for a beta release to become stable via the updater?. Id rather not risk my data being lost etc etc

And, have you tried wifi calling with no cell access / aeroplane mode? Cheers.
