I live in Canada and have a Brax3 phone. I have to travel to the USA for a week. My phone service provider does not support roaming, but I need to be connected to the net on the road.
I was thinking about an eSIM card if I could delete it completely after usage.
Can it be deleted or totally disabled from the Brax3 phone?
Any suggestions on the type of safe eSIM if there is any, or perhaps a portable hotspot?
I would appreciate skme help.
Thanks
Anneko
Yes and Yes. You can disable any SIM in the settings and yes you can easiky dekete an eSIM anytime.
Thank you, Mycenius. My concern is that if I download an eSIM into my Brax3 phone, a privacy-focused device, it can never be completely deactivated or deleted. I am saying it because Rob mentioned it in one of his videos about the nature of the eSIM.
I was wondering if, for some reason, the Brax3 behaves differently.
Interesting - I’ve never heard that and haven’t had a chance to watch his latest videos last few weeks if its in one of those…
My suspicion is he means if you deactivate it then its never fully deactivated (i.e. may still provide basic telemetry to provider). But I would have thought once deleted from phone its gone and no connectivity functionality still resides in system for that telco?
Hopefully someone with a bit deeper understanding of SIMs & mobile networking will know?
I agree with @Mycenius. Once you delete an eSim and the profile is gone, the phone should not be able to communicate with the carrier any longer.
As far as I know, deletion does not just hide the eSim and keep an up-link to the carrier in the background. The service connection is terminated. No way to communicate with the carrier.
That’s why when you delete an eSim by mistake, you have to contact your carrier to get another QR code or link to reinstall it.
So, here is Rob’s video that talks about the possible danger of an eSIM:
But, he messaged me on Brax.me chat that on Brax3, the eSIM software is open source so that risk is eliminated.
Hi. You can use the OpenEUICC app to disable your eSIM on the Brax3 or like Rob said in the video, you can perform a factory reset which would wipe it out.
