No option to update iodeOS on my Brax3

i read about OS Updates here: https://iode.tech/documentation/updates-backups/

It reads that when an update is available i will receive a notification, but i don’t. i also read on another closed topic on this forum, that there should be “System Updates” in Settings→System, but i don’ have this either. Please advise.

The latest update is 7.1 December 27th, if you are on this version you shouldn’t get any notification.

The updater is on the home screen grouped with the settings gear which is the same with Settings > System

I’m on 6.8. 7.1 downloaded in the updater 21 Dec, but when I try to install I get “Update blocked this update cannot be installed using the updater app.” it provides a link to wiki.lineageos but Page Not Found. Any tips? Phone is per factory, not unlocked bootloader etc.

You need the transitional updater, download and click to install it, fixes/Updater-v6-to-v7.apk · master · ota / ota · GitLab , after the reboot you’ll remove it

Hi geroge. My Brax3 is still on iodeOS version 6.3. On the home screen, i have iode app (communications blocker), iode browser and iode News. iode News has information about updates and has the word “updater“ highlighted in blue, indication that it is supposed to be a link. i tap on it, but nothing happens.

Sorry george, i though that your reply about the transitional updater was meant for ElGordo. i installed Updater-v6-to-v7.apk and rebooted. Opened the updater and it shows “No new updates found“. i manually checked for updates and “No new updates found“ popped up. Mobile data is on and am able to access the internets.

Now you’ll download the update manually and hit the 3 dots to do a local update, brax3/iode-7.1-20251227-brax3-ota.zip · master · ota / release · GitLab

i downloaded the update and did the local update, but got: “Failed to import local update”. i uninstalled the updater, reinstalled it, downloaded the update again and local update shows the same error message.

Download the update again, it may be corrupted.

You could calculate the checksum of the update to be sure, read this, Trying to update from 6.3 to 7.0 (but no WIFI, and no mobile data) - #4 by george

there is an app on Aurora for this purpose, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.raspreet.checksumcalculator

if it persists you can do a factory reset and repeat the process

The hash output of the update matches that of iode-7.1-20251227-brax3-ota.zip.sha256

Does the update need to be unzipped before the local update is done?

No it works directly as a zip file.

It’s something else, many problems go away with a factory reset.

Maybe if you connect the phone to the computer on USB debugging mode and take the LogCat it will show what is the problem.

i can do a reset, but i have important data on a reminder/task scheduling app. a backup of this data is only possible with a paid subscription managed by the google store, which requires signing in to a google account. i have to find a replacement that is google independent.

You can use the calendar app. As I can see it can sync with CalDav and Etesync servers.

the calendar app is too basic. i’ll look into the debugging mode LogCat that you mentioned.

We have discussed it here, Reboots while sleeping

I had the same issue where I could not update from 6.9 to 7.1 on one of my Brax3 phones. Your instructions worked.

Thanks George

Only for ciccio70 can’t work up to now.

Agree with Yryon instructions very easy to follow and beneficial, thanks a lot.

The iode application on my Brax3 will not up update either. I have downloaded the transitional updater and attempted the manual update method with the same results as ciccio70. The name of the updater suggests its for version6 to version7. When I open the iode app and look at the setting page, under about, it reads version 3.1.4. Is the v6 to v7 updater the correct one to use?
