Screen protector question

A lightweight topic.

The Brax3 shipped with a tempered glass screen protector. So I ordered an extra tg screen protector to have as a spare.

I placed the phone in the clear rubber case to make it easier to handle. I peeled off the clear plastic dust / scratch protector and what do I see but a screen protector already on the phone. I never purchased a new phone with a preinstalled screen protector! It is thinner than the tempered glass screen protectors.

My questions are:

  1. What type of screen protector was preinstalled on the Brax3?

  2. Do I remove the preinstalled screen protector and install a tempered glass screen protector?

  3. The preinstalled sp is very thin. Is the tempered glass sp meant to be installed on top of the preinstalled sp? Would this interfere with phone functionality?

Like I said I never received a new phone with a preinstalled screen protector.

Thanks

I’m still waiting for my phone, so I can’t answer with 100% certainty. However, in Rob’s unboxing video, it’s made clear that the film that comes pre-installed is not a screen protector for regular use, but rather the typical protective film factories use to handle the components, and it should be removed before using the phone because heat and other factors can cause stains. Personally, I’m not very keen on installing screen protectors. I believe that with a good case that properly protects the frame—like the rugged one that comes with my order—it’s enough. The standard transparent case might not provide full protection, but the rugged one has reinforced edges, which helps protect the screen.

As for the privacy screen protector that we all get as a gift, I’ll see whether I use it or not. For professional reasons, I travel a lot, and scanning QR codes for plane or train tickets is a real hassle with one of those. Plus, I’m honestly terrible at applying screen protectors, haha!

You can check out the unboxing video here.
Best regards.

Handy stated that the clear plastic film was removed and that there is a screen protector already installed. The same was for my phone. I believe that Handy’s phone as well as mine have a pre=installed screen protector.

You’re right! Rob doesn’t mention anything, except that the film that comes with the phone is not a protector but is meant to be removed. Since I haven’t received the phone yet, I can’t say for sure. It’s probably a basic protector, not tempered glass. In that case, honestly, I wouldn’t install anything else unless you work in construction, do extreme sports, or something similar. Most likely, to install another type of protector, this one will need to be removed first. Let’s see if @plamen can confirm for us. Best regards.

The pre-applied protector will help with some scratches. But won’t protect the screen from knocks. If you install the tampered glass protector, remove the pre-applied protector first.

Thanks for the post… I wasn’t aware of a ā€œpre-installedā€ screen protector under the shipping film until I prepared to install the Glass Privacy Screen Protector. It seems the touch-screen is more responsive with the privacy glass screen protector. Thanks again.

Good to know. I wondered about that. But didn’t know. So I left it on when adding the thicker protector. Seems to work okay.

I didn’t know neither, I’ve installed the thicker protector on the other one too. It looks very thick actually but seems to work well until now. I suppose it would break the thick protector to remove the one under.

I removed the screen protector that came with the phone. Very basic lite scratch protection as @plamen implied.

The tempered glass screen protector was easy to install and looks great.

Just a little FYI … the clear rubber case that was in the box with the phone worked great when replacing the screen protector. The screen is ā€˜just’ above the top of the case so there is enough clearance. The clear rubber case makes the phone a lot easier to hold on to due to less slippage. Also it does not slide around on the table as easy as the phone itself does. So hang on to the clear rubber case!

As mentioned I had put the thicker protector over the thin protector. I decided to try to pull them off. It worked. Both easily came off together. And it was easy to separate the two protectors. And replacing the thicker protector went back on just fine.

Well I am glad that the screen protectors came apart without needing a pry bar, and that you were able to reinstall the tempered glass screen protector.

Lastly, I really like the privacy feature of this screen protector- where the screen display disappears when you tilt the phone. First time experiencing it. Pretty cool. There are too many busybodies out there. Nice to have this feature.
