Hello there,
Longtime normie phone switching to Android. Had some help browsing different discussions on the forum here. Thanks all for sharing your insights..
I was looking for Session the chat app, but I’m not able to find it in the Aurora store. But when I look for it in the Google Play store, I can find it. See here…
I have made an anonymous account on Google to be able to log in to Aurora. Two questions about this topic.
- Any idea why I cannot see Session in Aurora?
- What is the [technical] difference when I download an app directly from Google Play Store or via Aurora?
Thanks for your time.
Kind regards,
Siemen
Shows up for me in Aurora store. Try force closing the Aurora store app or restart the phone.
If that doesn’t work, force close the app and clear the cache and storage in Aurora

I downloaded it from Aurora store but they do have an “unofficial” version in F-Droid too (curiously with no icon so you barely see it).
Items in FDroid are compiled by the FDroid maintainer, so sometimes there are missing icons occasionally. Also, the FDroid apps also “sometimes” are missing minor options that are in the Google Play store apps. FDroid tries to stick with as clean of a FOSS package (from what I can tell) as possible.
Here is an example… Breezy Weather
With Breezy, there are a ton of SOURCES (sites that provide weather data, like Accuweather). However, in the FDroid package, you will only find the Open-something something source. No Accuweather, etc.
Proton is another example. All of Proton’s apps are in Google Play. But only two of Proton’s app are actually open source (Pass and VPN). So you would only find those two in FDroid.
