I’ve tried a couple different SMS apps and have a few different camera apps installed but cannot use “Take a Photo” from any SMS app. It opens a little dialog at the bottom of the screen where a camera app should show up to select for taking pictures but nothing shows up and it says no apps available.
What OS version are you running?
Just tested this flow with the default SMS and Camera app (running on iode 7.7) and it worked as expected - camera is opened.
Is this the behavior when using the default SMS app and default camera apps?
Yes, that is if I have the defaults back on again. I disabled and uninstalled them because I didn’t like them, but put them back on and tested and they have the same issue.
The default camera is com.iode.aperture which is a poor camera so I use Open Camera. And I am guessing the default SMS app is org.fossify.messages, but I prefer to use QUIK SMS.
We were able to test this.
The system SMS app are not recognizing third party camera apps. We found this issue raised to Fossify (the developer of the system SMS app). We are assuming that QUIK SMS has the same issue.
A quick test whether the camera is correctly installed and recognized within the OS is double clicking the power button, which should prompt you to select your camera if more than one is installed. Could you try that?
Based on our tests (on iode 7.7), after reinstalling the system app camera, it is correctly launched from both the system SMS and QUIK SMS apps.
I double clicked the power button and it asked which camera app to use, so I selected Open Camera and it opened it. Now when I double click the power button it opens the Open Camera but it still says no valid app found with both Fossify SMS and QUIK SMS.
I even tried setting the aperture camera as default, then fossify sms as default and it still didn’t open from sms. I also tried rebooting the phone but it still says no valid app found.
I have the exact same setup with the same apps and mine works fine.
Try this, re-enable and re-install anything you did before to get back to the defaults. Then REMOVE every sms app except Fossify. REMOVE every camera app except the default one I think called Aperture. Restart the phone then check for any updates to make sure your updated and on iodeOS 7.8.
Then see if it works. It should as everything is updated and back at the defaults which seems to work for everyone else.
Once sure its working, now you can fool with other camera and sms apps but I would try to get it working at the defaults first.
I tried everything you suggested and it still says no valid app to take a picture with the messages app. Also, I’m on iode7.7 and do not see any option to get 7.8.
I’m thinking my only option is to do a factory reset which is more of a pain than I want to deal with right now. The Brax2 Pixel phone was a better phone, the only thing this phone has going for it is the extra storage space (which I had to buy my own SD card from Amazon because I never got the one promised by Brax when I backed the phone). With all the issues I’ve had with this phone I would give it 2 out of 5 whereas the Brax2 would get a solid 4 out of 5.
