Switched from ATT to T-Mobile and now Group MMS does not work

Using T-Mobile through Patriot Mobile. Had to switch from ATT through Patriot because ATT stopped working with the Brax3. First few months were fine. Then nothing, so had to switch to T-Mobile. Now, Group MMS text messages do not send and cannot send attachments using Thunderbird. Strangely, Bulk texts will send, but not Group and I can receive Group texts, but cannot reply. Very frustrating!!! My APN settings were given to me by Patriot/T-Mobile (I called them about a different issue). I like the Brax3 phone, but it is a pain trying to get things to work. Group MMS texts are a necessity and have to be usable. I have looked at potentially changing the IMEI, but that procedure looks a little scary. Been trying to backup messages to my PC to attempt that, but maybe not.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is Iode’ working on a fix for Group text messages? I have seen a lot of post with that similar complaint.
Any help, or suggestions is appreciated.

Try the QKSMS app from F-droid and delete and add again the APN to be sure, the type of the message from SMS to MMS may change automatically depending on the content and maybe this is why some messages are sent and other not.

What has Thunderbird to do with the messages? It sends emails.

I tried OKSMS earlier today after seeing a post about it. It did not work either. Although, I will try again with the APN thing. Images, vids, etc… will also not send in a text message.

Thunderbird will send email, but will not send attachments in an email, seems no matter the size. Not related (I don’t think) to the MMS thing, but just another problem with Brax3.

You can get a log while sending a message this way, Delayed sms messages - #36 by george

Thunderbird sounds like a configuration problem. Isn’t the email sent at all or it delivers only the text?

When there is an attachment, the email will not send at all.

Thanks for the info.

I am also experiencing mms group message issues on tmobile.

Probably Gina will be the only user that will provide us with a LogCat so that we can get an idea where the problem could be.

The best starting point with those issues will always be to contact your mobile carrier’s support team. They can look through logs and quickly identify what could be causing the issue - APN misconfiguration, device being blocked, etc.

UPDATE: Contacted Patriot Mobile twice :-). Using T-Mobile through Patriot Mobile. Was told everything looked correct, but I needed to turn on RCS to send MMS/Group texts. Apparently it is a T-Mobile thing. Oh well, I guess it is what it is.

Would it help and is it a viable option to change the IMEI on Brax3 to the one on my old iPhone? Grasping at straws here. Really need Group/MMS texts to work.

The situation in the USA cellular landscape is really terrible, so now they force RCS, nothing can be done until RCS is developed for Lineage OS, no point changing the IMEI for this situation.

@plamen could you ask Mediatek to provide us even with a binary blob for that?

Since your previous phone was iPhone, did you disable the MMS messaging on your iPhone before switching to your Brax3? If not, that might be the cause of your problem.

Sir, yes sir. I have triple checked that iMessage is turned off  .

Not that this helps you, but…trying to use Thunderbird (client) with iCloud/me email (Apple servers) hasn’t worked for me at all on my Brax3.

The default SMS FOSS/F-droid app “Messages” doesn’t allow pictures or videos to be attached.

Having said that, I don’t see how either situation has anything to do with the Brax3. It’s like moving to a foreign country as an English-speaker and getting mad they don’t all speak English (nevermind that they all seem to move here and then expect us to learn ______, but…I digress).

Having said that, I’ll never go back to the Goog/Meta/Apple digital gulag…I took the red pill and don’t regret it.

The Thunderbird should be checked in detail, can you use Thunderbird on desktop?

What do you mean it can’t attach photos?
If you can’t attach it it’s a bug else if you can’t send it it’s an APN or maximum size problem or the carrier enforces RCS at least for large MMS.

No idea what the first part is talking about. Second part is on my list to install on my new Linux machines (both pop!OS)…I’ll get to it someday (hopefully soon).

We’re still mid-transition from Apple, and things keep popping up and getting in the way.

I just wanted an email client on my Brax3 so I could access my iCloud accounts…there were indications that Thunderbird could handle that. The spreadsheet, the map with traffic, and email access can all be worked around via websites, so…I’ll worry about it later.

The QUIK app was at least able to attach a photo, but can’t take one. The default iodeOS FOSS Message app can’t attach, nor take a photo. As far as I can tell, the OS has permission settings for the camera, and neither the Message nor the QUIK app have, nor are able to get, permissions.

Meh…I don’t have time to troubleshoot all these issues. I’ll just use Signal (or Telegram)…if people can’t/won’t communicate with me using those apps, well…there you go…no pictures/movies for regular iPhone/Android friends. If I prioritized convenience over principle…well, I guess I’d be like 93% of people sleepwalking their way through life.

The MMS is a usual problem at least in the USA.
