I had a discussion offline in a PM with another forum member and shared some tips - so I then thought I’d start a thread for anyone new(ish) to this forum, or forums in general, or to using Discourse (the platform this forum runs on) - to share tips and tricks and advice on how to make the most of the forum’s functionality…
If you click a link and are in Windows or Linux in a browser, Right Click it with mouse and choose open in new tab (or window) so you don’t lose your current page if you want to refer back to it; if on Apple it should be the ‘click command’ thing IIRC (hold down mouse button until menu comes up with open in new tab option). On mobiles/iPhone (in a browser) it’s press and hold usually to get the pop-up menu…
Also use your (forum) bookmarks - if you find an important post (or thread) bookmark it - then you just have to look through your bookmarks to find it… You can bookmark an individual post (usually the 3-dots menu at bottom right), or you can bookmark the whole thread when you get to the bottom of it, with the bookmark icon at the bottom left…
Also if you click your icon at top right, then click the little person icon at the bottom of the list (you), then choose activity along the top, you will then see a log of everything you have done. If you go to “Replies” or “Read” you can then scroll through everything you have replied to or just read respectively, in chronological order from newest to oldest… So can always find things in there you previously looked at.
Likewise for “Likes” and “Bookmarks”. Use Bookmarks to flag real important things, Likes for anything interesting - then you can always find them in your list.
Hopefully this is of some use or interest to someone.
