Uber and texts don't coming through

I’ve had my phone for 3 years and I’m finally getting annoyed with the problems, so I apologize if I break any rules (combining 2 queries into one post, etc)

First, my uber app keeps crashing. I just downloaded the latest version so that isn’t the problem. It isn’t incredibly useful since the location tracker isn’t useful, but it would be nice if it kinda worked.

Second, I can’t get group texts. Recently, I could I get group texts if they were text or photo only, not gifs. Then I stoppped getting them at all, then a friend suggesting cleaning out my photos, which helped for a while. Now I can’t get group texts AT ALL. I also can’t get photos texted to me. Is my phone just getting old? Do I need a better carrier?

Not sure if uber will work with a degoogled phone, it might require the google safety net.

As for texts, you probably need to turn off RCS chat (if coming from android), or apple messages (if coming from iPhone)

Just login to said account from a different device and search for either RCS or I message settings and turn it off. Should work fine after that.

Yep - and Uber is a major privacy issue, so not really what you should have on a degoogled privacy device, kinda defeats the purpose…

I’ve actually used Uber on my degoogled phone before. I just had to type in the address where I started and where I wanted to go. So there were no location services on.

Umm, if you have had your phone 3 years it’s obviously not a BraX3? What is it, are you running iodéOS? Is it a privacy phone? If it is iodé then maybe try the community linked at the bottom of this post…

Assuming it is a BraX3 (or similar) some obvious things to check are:

  1. Were you ex-iPhone - if so did you deregister iMessage & Facetime from your number?
  2. Have you set your messaging app to use MMS for large messages and images, etc…
  3. What is the MMS limits for your carrier - how large are the images? Are they exceeding the limit (e.g. 300kb)?
  4. If removing images helped how much free space do you have on your device - are you out of storage?

It is a pixel 4 BraxOS. I don’t know how to tell how recent the OS is other than those stats (if you tell me where to look on my phone for OS version number I can do that). But definitely not iphone - this is actually my first smart phone, so I didn’t carry anything over from anything.

I think part of the problem is my plan. I finally reached out to my carrier and somehow I reached a data limit that prohibited me from getting group texts and photo texts. I’ve deleted a ton of old texts and photos and that hasn’t helped, so I think I have to wait for the next month of data. But I’ve not been able to use my uber app in a couple of years so that seems to be separate from the data / photo issue?

You can get some ‘general’ help here but this forum is principally for the BraX3 phone and it’s associated OS’s (iodéOS, LinearOS, LunarOS and Ubuntu Touch) which is done by a separate company that involves Rob. But all Rob’s other bespoke products he sells (and supports), like the older BraxOS, Brax2(?) Phone, VPN and VOIP services, Private Email, etc, is done on his forum linked to above.

No worries - people here can help with some general stuff - but if its in any way related to your phone OS and it;'s specific settings you’ll need help from the official forum for it I think.
