What is APN? can't find on my phone

What is this APN people refer too quite a lot? I tried finding it on my phone but can’t find it.

Settings > Network and internet > SIMs > [your telco] > Access point names >

There will be a list of 2, 3, 4, or more “names” representing each of the services available using that SIM. Tapping on any one will reveal a table of a dozen or so parameters, each one of which must be correct for that service to work. Unfortunately some telcos’ websites are sadly out of date on what should be in those tables; unfortunately some tecos’ front office staff are not interested in helping the customer with a non-big-brand-name phone.
