Why doesn't Breezy Weather update like other apps?

Breezy Weather is saying there is a new 6.2.0 version. It wants me to download an apk and install it. I can do that but why doesn’t it update like every other app?

Honestly, Breezy Weather has been a nuisance since it first appeared.

I tried to update breezy downloaded it but could not install it. I opened the download and tried the update, it fails each time. Anyone know what I need to do different? Thanks

I concur. Breezy has been a PIA since I first received my Brax phone. Multiple times a week I get notifications that Breezy didn’t update. It’s to the point I don’t notice the messages anymore - kind of like commercials on TV….that’s not good.

I get several “failed to update notifications” and eventually a “successful update” notification.

Same here. I just end up ignoring it and it eventually updates. I generally just don’t use the app anymore

Breezy is a preinstalled app.

All preinstalled apps can not be updated independently.

They need to be updated by Iodé. Hopefully in the next ota update breezy will be updated.

Good to know! But why does it tell us there is an update and where to go to get the update?

I just updated to 7.5 and this morning Breezy Weather is saying I should upgrade to 6.2.0, just as it did before

My assumption made an ass of me.

@plamen was wrong too.

I don’t know how to fix it…

Uninstall it. You have to go to Settings, Apps, then Preinstalled apps. Reboot. Now install from F-Droid (or Aurora Store or whatever store you want to use). Bonus, you can now silence notifications (you can’t when it’s a system app).

If you want to keep it a system app, then you can make sure that f-droid is using the special iodeos version instead of the f-droid version. It’s possible that f-droid sees there’s an update in one repository, but can’t update it (because the signatures don’t match). Personally I set it so it doesn’t notify me of updates and doesn’t try to auto-update. Also, if the app itself is checking and is what’s showing the notification…well I don’t think you can silence that if it’s a system app (again, you just don’t have the control over notifications for system apps that you would if it’s a normal app), so I’d just do the uninstall then install as a normal app.

If it’s a system app, will new releases of the OS overwrite the version installed from f-droid?

If you uninstall a system app, it’s no longer a system app and it shouldn’t be re-installed during a system update. Never say never though, I’ve seen weirder things happen (even if it tried to, it should fail because the signatures don’t match).
