Will updating brick my phone?

I read awhile ago that if you skip an update it could brick your phone. I am currently on iodéOS 7.5 and the next option I see in my updater is 7.7. Would going to 7.7 be fine or do I need to install 7.6 first?

I would just update what is showing there. I am on 7.8 and don’t think you need to go manually find and install older updates just so you can install the most current one.

@plamen would skipping 7.6 be an issue?

I went from 7.3 to 7.7 and my phone is working.

I bought a Brax3 last summer. I updated it and it bricked. I returned it and they finally sent me a new one, but in the meantime I’d gone back to using my Pixel 5 with CalyxOS. When my replacement Brax3 arrived, I just kept using my Pixel since it was smaller.

My Pixel finally gave up the ghost, so I just opened up my new Brax3 and ported over all my apps and files. But I see I’m on iodeOS version 6.3-20250526-brax3.

Questions:

  1. Should I update my OS?
  2. If so, why?
  3. And how would I go about that? Are there intermediate steps I ought to take, or can I just jump to the latest?
  4. If 7.8 is the latest, would there be advantages to stopping at, say, 7.6 instead? I’m not the type of person who needs to be bleeding edge.
