I’m starting a Rumble channel, and have just released a short video (link below). It explains the vulnerability of phone numbers, and how XMPP messaging (and features offered by corresponding Apps) combat that vulnerability. A few months ago, I posted some questions & video links regarding No-SIM usage for Brax3. While it was not my goal per sé, I was glad to see the post spurred much conversation, and participants learned some things from other community members.
The goal of this community is to assist each other in any functions handled on De-Googled phones (namely Brax3). Rob has also mentioned (in his own videos) the need for more people to step up and help others. Knowing that, I figured it would be appropriate and mutually beneficial to inform the community of my channel. It is not my intent to abuse access to a community forum like this by “soliciting,” so hopefully anyone who sees my post will understand where I’m coming from.
If you are interested, or if you think anyone you know may appreciate the video, the video link is below. I would certainly appreciate the viewership, word-of-mouth support, and engagement. The video is currently under review to be monetized, so if anyone in the community can benefit from the information while also helping me with my goal, that would be wonderful!
I have plans for future content. Videos will cover various topics that I believe are relevant, relatable, and actionable to anyone using a smartphone or computer - regardless of how new or versed they are in the areas of Digital Security and Privacy.
I found a similar thing was happening when I tried to search for the video on my browser. Based on what I’ve learned over the past couple days, I think the video won’t be searchable until it’s monetized. Hopefully that’s sooner than later.
Thanks for checking it out. Hopefully you found it helpful!
are you the creator of the app, or just promoting it? was disconcerted i didn’t hear your voice. maybe it’s just how it goes these days…thanks for the option- i am interested and will look into it.
encrypted decentralized messaging is definitely the way to go!
EDIT:
Delta Chat, Arcane Chat and What’s Down are easier for non-techy users as the app generates the password and stores it so that u have an encrypted fingerprint! So easy that my mom can use it on her iPad!
I didn’t create any of the apps. I’ve just used one of them for Android Open Source as well as iOS.
Since they’re Open Source, they are not sponsored. Just knew that more people who are looking for options when transitioning to Privacy-friendly messaging (and devices) need something that is well-explained and outlines the benefits succinctly.
Took me hours of looking around to find something I was happy/confident with. If only Rumble could get their act together and allow my video & channel to come up in search results, it could hopefully spread further.
Thanks for your interest, and sorry for the delay in response!
Do Delta Chat, Arcane Chat and What’s Down have the option to manage VoIP numbers in the same app? I haven’t been able to explore them.
If not, while they may certainly be good for less tech-savvy people (or be alternatives to apps like Session), XMPP clients would still have an edge for those looking for a more feature-rich or “cross-compatible” option (if you will) with the SMS system. Might take a little more effort, but depends on what your willingness and goals are.
Also xmpp is not decentralised. It is centrilased over several servers which renders the capability of blocking very feasible. So you would need like a list of hundreds different endpoint to defeat the automated system in a network like let’s say IRAN and china to take contemporary examples where Cisco did its biggest work.
Plus you have the countless limitation of the xmpp protocol, the overload of the servers muc and pub with mostly useless messages.
And the countless cve over the years which gives plenty of possibility for the intelligence community to poke holes in it.
but it is a very good alternative. Not good enough for a battlefield like ukr tho.
A truly decentralised is like the original idea p2p of Skype which some old and new apps are inspired by. that’s actually a true good alternative and super resilient.
