Brax3 and DeepL

Is anyone using the deepl translation app?

I have it downloaded. The text feature works. The photo feature works. But I can see a microphone icon on any language.

Maybe I need a voice to text app?

Need this before I travel out of country…

For privacy-respecting voice-to-text, download “FUTO Voice Input” from F-Droid. You’ll probably need to add the repository called “FUTO F-Droid Repo” to the app you are using to access F-Droid.

FUTO Voice Input also integrates nicely into the Heliboard keyboard that comes default with the BraX3. This allows you to use voice-to-text in any app that you use the keyboard for.

Nothing on fdroid.

It is on aurora…

The mic shows on deepl now but its greyed out on the Jap / Eng translation.

And I don’t see how futo works with the text app on brax3.

Shouldn’t I be able to speak a message then it text the message into the text window?

Well for the next guy needing this…

I wasn’t able to get Futo Voice to text to work with the Heliboard keyboard app, so it did not enhance the DeepL translator like I wanted.

But futo voice and futo keyboard together allows the voice to text to work. Therefore I can now speak into DeepL and have it translate the text into Japa nese.

I did like the Heliboard keyboard though…

As I said before, you have to add the FUTO F-Droid repository to the list of repositories your F-Droid client accesses. That repo is not installed by default.

If you install FUTO Keyboard, you don’t need to also install FUTO Voice Input as that is already part of FUTO Keyboard.

I use HeliBoard and FUTOVI integrates just fine with it on all of my Android (both Google and degoogled) devices.

To add the voice input button to Heliboard: HeliBoard Settings/Toolbar/Select toolbar keys (and Select pinned toolbar keys). The voice input button looks like a microphone.

Any guidance on how to add the FUTO F=Droid repository to the list of repositories the F-Droid client accesses? I’m new to android so please bear with my lack of knowledge.

Hi.
Go into F-Droid
Click on settings (The gear icon in the bottom right corner)
Click on Repositories
Click the on + on the bottom right corner
Click on Enter repository URL manually
Enter the following url:

Click on Add

  1. Thank you all. I like the heliboard better. Now the mic is visible and easily accessible.

  2. I can delete the futo keyboard to keep from having too many apps.

  3. What other repositories are worth having on my F Droid client?

I use Neo Store and Droid-ify as my F-Droid clients. FUTO F-Droid Repo already shows up in the list of available repos in Neo Store, so I didn’t have to manually add that repo

You’re very welcome.

Yes, I prefer HeliBoard, too, and I think it was smart of iodé to choose it as the default keyboard for their custom ROM. Lots of configurability and doesn’t act as a keylogger for Big Tech (Lookin’ at you, SwiftKey!).

Another repo to consider adding is “Brave Browser”. Normally, you have to get Brave from the Google Play Store as it is not in the F-Droid repo. I prefer to minimize getting apps from GPS, even if using Aurora Store anonymously.

Another repo of vetted privacy-respecting and secure FOSS apps is Accrescent. Relatively new and small, but growing. To access Accrescent, go to https://accrescent.app/, download the .apk file, and manually install the app.
