Why, since I’ve had the phone, does the Breezy Weather App, always try to update occassionally and fails because it is already at the latest version of 5.4.8? It is only in the F-Droid store. And only at 5.4.8, so why does it try to update? Is it as simple as uninstall/reinstall?
Hi.
Is it just the weather location trying to update? Are you using a VPN?
Hmm, Idk. I didn’t think of that. I uninstalled /reinstalled to see if it still does it. I guess it’s probably location. I’ll screenshot the notice if it does it again. I only have one location at the moment. Thanks.
No problem. If it is the location, just open the app and swipe down to refresh it. That should work.
The problem is that some of the various weather components come from providers not giving information for your location. You can edit the providers for the various elements by clicking the “pencil” next to your location name at the top and tapping “Weather sources”. In the USA, for example, Open-Meteo does not give results for several bits (and not great results for other bits), so you can change to AccuWeather instead (esp. the “Pollen” one was throwing a lot of errors under Open-Meteo).
Going to Settings > Weather Sources lets you change the default provider for new locations.
Hello Brax3 fellow users. I want to uninstall the Breezy Weather app from the phone. I don’t need this app. I have looked through many submenus in Settings but no success so far. This is a customizable phone. I am pretty sure there must be a way to uninstall this original app. I am not a programmer/high level tech savvy guy like many of you in this chat. And I don’t want to ask ChatGPT because I don’t want them to even imagine I have a DeGoogled phone. Your thoughts will be highly appreciated. Thanks.
Settings >apps>preinstalled apps >weather
@guardian241 Thank you so much for your accurate and prompt response. It worked!
Out of curiosity is there a general view of which of the 3(?) initially included providers is considered most reliable/accurate generally? I realise it can vary depending on where in the world you are, but I always thought AccuWeather’s data was a bit trashy/inaccurate in past experience on other devices/apps/etc…?
P.S. As an example ever since Apple changed their weather app to Dark Sky in 2022 the reliability and accuracy of forecasts for here in NZ has got steadily worse - pretty much forecasts for next few days are largely inaccurate. When they were sourcing data from The Weather Channel it seemed to be highly accurate all the time and super reliable (i.e. you could rely on the forecast almost all the time). Not sure if both those providers source(d) raw data from same place (e.g. NZ Met Service), and a change there is the issue; but always seemed suspicious the accuracy deteriorated when the primary data source for the app was changed…
I’ve never installed the weather app, just stuck with windy. com
via Brave browser, installed a shortcut. It guesses my location on network provider location. Thinks I’m in Christchurch NZ. Miles away!
Learned a lot here from the community. and finally got me up and running with the weather app. Thanks folks. Leads me to a question. upon opening app, i selected location. assuming it would pic a major city in my time zone since I’m on a vpn. but it knows right where I am. does that mean my VPN is not working? **I’m on home wifi, haven’t installed the sim yet.
It knows your GPS location. I believe the location is turned on when you first boot the phone. That’s probably how it knows.
gotchya. that makes since.

South Canterbury.
Sneaking around all over the place.
…Selwyn… practically neighbours!

And I’m still keen to hear if there is consensus one of the providers is considered meaningfully better than the others…
Had a few clients in Selwyn area. I’ve settled on 2degrees as coverage is best here. Also have a sim for home internet, ditched fibre. Seems fast enough and is portable. Got six months half price deal. Both unlimited data, full speed.
Yes I have been with 2degrees for a long time, generally best pricing and very good coverage - especially since they got the bulk of their own cell towers all up and running several years ago (rather than leasing capacity on Vodafone’s) - since that time they have seemed to just get better faster coverage year on year…
Hello, Breezy Weather app keeps notifying me of a beta update. When clicked, it takes me to their github page. Once downloaded, it doesn’t install because it conflicts with the stable one.
When the next stable update is available, will it be updated through F-Droid or does it have to be manually updated through GitHub?
Open F-Droid app>click on settings>click on manage installed apps>click on breezy weather>click on the 3 dots and you’ll find 3 selections, choose allow beta updates. The update that breezy weather is trying to install is a beta version. I did not try this as I do not need to install beta versions of apps.
