LunarOS MEGATHREAD

We’re restructuring a bit the process. The access to source code will be tied to the new bounty program we’re working on launching. I’ll post an update when we’re ready with that, and the process to get onbaorded.

Please check my response to ericHz.

Thanks Plamen :love_you_gesture::grinning_face::+1: Keep on keeping on :folded_hands: Mmm8.

I may be missing something obvious, so apologies in advance.
I had purchased a spare Brax3, to use when other OS were released (especially Ubuntu Touch), and that says to install Lunar OS first.
The Brax3 is still on iodeOS 6.3 (and won’t upgrade manually, and the page that is linked 404’s, and the page for manually updating, Also 404’s).
I downloaded the0 SP Flash to install the current LunarOS, but it wants a Download XML file, which is not included in the releases page.

Where is the actual instructions for installing the current version of LunarOS using SP Flash? I see in this thread the need for a Firmware Upgrade, but actual steps seem to be missing…
Thanks!

J

p.s. oh, and README.md, when available in the various OS’s release section, is blank…

For the iodéOS upgrade see here, Unable to connect to my home WiFi connection - #2 by george

The XML is in this file, brax3/iode-7.2-20260131-brax3-spflash.zip · master · ota / release · GitLab , I don’t know whether it’s the same for Lunar.

Ubuntu Touch isn’t working well with the modem and has various other differences/difficulties, My Linux Phablet installed!

Be careful to understand completely the procedure before proceeding.

The firmware upgrade probably means to flash the vendor partition with the appropriate binaries.

Thanks for the links. Slow internet today here, I’ll see if they work when the downloads are done. Thanks again!

Thanks for the links. I was able to get the device, firmware, then iodeOS updated, then installed LunarOS. Was able to sideload F-Droid.
Odd question about LunarOS, should there be an option to check for updates? That option seems to be missing from Options, System (like others have), even though it is showing when i search… Weird… Nice to have a very barebones system to test though!

I have no idea how it works, it is the development OS so they probably release the updates and you upgrade manually. What did you do exactly with the firmware ?

I used the the instructions for using the spflash tool, ran the Firmware Upgrade, and then after it took it’s sweet time and was completed, ran the Format All + Download options…

One thing that is a bit different than others, possibly because of the development status, the About phone has a Build number and a Custom build version.

LunarOS is still an early version with no OTA support. Updates need to be installed manually. It’s very barebone.

How does the Android app issue affect LunarOS? We use Lunar (love it)on our BraX3’s (with pixel IMEIs) in order to use Verizon (phones set to 4G only), works great, no issues at all traveling TX & AZ from Midwest. We could get by with just the default apps, but there is no browser. We loaded Brave & Waterfox from Aurora Store, if it goes away, any ideas?

Those are completely open-source and can be distributed as apks by the developers or compile them by yourself.

You shouldn’t worry about these going away. If aurora gets obsolete, you will still be able to sideload apps, including update for apps. There is always F-droid too.

Thank you George, with a lot of help from this site I got our B3s working, but compiling is probably out of my reach :grin:

Thank you plamen, for that info. I did try several browsers from Fdroid, none work with this site - it requires a ‘mainstream’ browser to access account, post, comment. :slightly_smiling_face:

Indeed compiling Firefox and Brave needs a powerful computer with much memory but their apks will always be available. I’m afraid any other app on Google Play will soon need some verification with cryptographic keys through Google and won’t be able to run on degoogled phones.
