Microg settings

Completely new to privacy based phones and my tech knowledge is low. Reading and learning much from this community.

What settings should be turned on in the microg settings?

Welcome to the forum. I think it’s pretty much configured by default in iodĂ©, but haven’t got my BraX3 handy to check. IIRC there’s only a couple of options?

There’s been some discussion on MicroG in some other threads, but some on very specific things, so a search here should turn them up for you and they might help. e.g. see these two perhaps:

There may also be more information on the iodé OS website & community too? e.g. summary page for MicroG is here:

And the MicroG wiki gives fairly simple install instructions for config (Step 5 is the config part):

P.S. I presume you’ve watched Rob’s video on initial set up of Brax3, he doesn’t go into detail I don’t think but IIRC does cover it
 Anyway if you haven’t it’s here (or on Rumble if you want to avoid G):

P.S. you might find this of interest too - includes link to Wiki that gives status of the microG implementation for various portions of the Google API:

Thank you for your help. I just don’t want to make foolish mistakes.

I hear you, me too! Hence I am taking my time getting the phone configured and up and running for the first time! Especially as I am coming from iOS and my knowledge of Android in general, while usable, is not exactly detailed or experienced level

:wink::smiley:

So FWIW I just checked my BraX3 phone as I haven’t touched microG - it looks like everything is pre-enabled and correct (I believe, as I understand it?) by default; except 1 item and you can double check this by using the self check option (in microG itself’s settings), and tap on the item not ticked as instructed.

My understanding is you want them all active so other apps think all the G Services are present when they aren’t. The one not ticked is because in my case (and I assume the default) ‘Carnet’ does not have rights to appear on top of other apps (but phone does) - this would also seem correct as I assumed it’s Android-Auto related so should not have that permission unless you are using AA to connect your phone to car. Phone does need it so you can take calls while in another app I presume.

But someone more knowledgeable may know some fine-tuning you can do, but I doubt there is anything ‘bad’ you can do by using it on default settings; just options to tweak things more if desired.

The key thing is probably more about never to log into a Google* account on the device, or install any Google apps, unless you understand the ramifications and/or have a very specific need; or as Rob explained really want to use something like Google Maps or YouTube and will do so sans any account log in

(*and likewise for Meta & Meta apps)

Thanks for more clarification. I rewatched Rob’s video and with your linked articles I think I have a better understanding.
