Agreed. Even with my 16” MBP M1 and its somewhat burdensome weight, 99% of the usage is with an external keyboard - bluetooth or otherwise.

will you have a case option w/o the keyboard then? something that fits snugly around just the tablet? because in this case, i would use my own BT keyboard and dont want all the extra space and volume of your keyboard option, but still want the protective case/

if you could kindly post them here when they are ready. thanks

You can just buy the standard folio case, as it doesn’t have a keyboard.

We’re working on the details of what will be publicly available (patches, configs, documentation) and will share more as we get closer to delivery. The goal is definitely to support the broader Linux community beyond just our official Ubuntu build.

What a disappointment that Braxtech has decided to make an in-house OS. The best thing about the Brax3 is iodéOS, and the team behind it. I can understand people were frustrated about the slow development around the Brax3, especially the wifi issues, but in the end we got a great, stable system, and solutions to all of the major difficulties. Wish I could say a same for all of the other builds and OSs we were promised. Mediatek SoCs are not easy to support, difficulties in development are common, as the code base is nasty. I wish you all the best of luck, but won’t spend this kind of money without a solid, experienced team behind the development.

They have a contract with Mediatek’s main integrator, and they have already looked into the implementation of Genio 720 SoC into the Linux mainline kernel last year from what I can tell. Not sure what they will do for the Android build though.

Has there been any discussion on camera specs, other than the listed 16MP dual rear cameras and 8MP front? Sensor size and/or models?

This is very important to me as well, being able to put a different distro on will be a big part of the usability for me.

It’s a real pity the “pro” version has OLED. For people who are sensitive to PWM flickering and temporal dithering (another kind of flickering), OLED is a huge downgrade.

Open-source tablets have come and gone for years. Their disappearance always seems to come down to companies like Mediatek refusing to make key drivers open source. Most become e-waste. I wouldn’t be surprised if factory owners see open-source projects as a way to get rid of components they’d otherwise have to recycle or throw out.

Hi I contacted [email protected] with a request for a cancellation of one item and received no reply. I dont want to be getting charged 6% return fees after the deadline or potentially have all my orders cancelled by your error. Why are returns not automated on a website shopping cart feature??? Or maybe I can cancel it already from the Indigogo site if im mistaken?

I decided to get both keyboard case and regular folio case because I’m not sure how often I’ll use the keyboard. :upside_down_face:

If you’re talking about removing something from your pledge on the Open_Slate, you can just do that on indiegogo by clicking on “Edit Pledge”.

Just a future suggestion. The Slate looks amazing, specially with the transparent back of the device. Why not create a case that is extremely minimalist, all transparent/clear color, very very thin, so you can have a minimal level of protection while showing off how cool the device really is? (basically protection from scratches on the body of the device).

The trouble with clear cases, at least most of them, is that they eventually turn yellow.

There has only been one phone case manufacturer that I’m aware of (dBrand) that has made a case that does not yellow. So I don’t know if they patented that particular plastic that they use.

I agree, but they last at least 1 or 2 years and it all depends on how you use it.

I have a clear one for my Google Slate, its about 4 years old, and still clear, but it never leaves the house, I use it for Home Assistant.

With the cut off of LNG 30% of the worlds Helium production is non existent. Semi conductor production is dependent on the production and cryogenic container transport of Helium through the Strait of Hormuz. I see this as a critical factor to this project. Just saying.

Congrats for the success on the first sales. I got lucky enough to order 6 min after launch and was already order 67 or so…

For the PRO version , will it be possible to downgrade to regular LED screen ? I find OLED to lead to headaches and eye strain. Having the option would be awesome, not even asking for a discount. Best

That’s part of the reason I didn’t order a pro version. My Brax3 is set to auto and with the privacy screen is a bit darker. Had one OLED screen phone and didn’t care for it. This’ll be a first big tablet. Definitely don’t want that much eye strain. :eyes:
