Ring tone and email tone are not working. Both have worked. I’ve looked at every setting I can think of but can’t figure out what happened.
Ring volume is 100%.
Do not disturb is off.
There’s silence when selecting new ring tones.
Yes. Just checked again.
What’s weird is I got sounds on both for a few hours today. Now no ring, text or email sound. The alarm sound has always worked.
We would need a bit more info. After you disabled “DND” are you now able to select ring tones (and hear them) from System Settings > Sound & vibration > Phone ringtone?
About email notifications, the sound for the notification is set there as well, but to actually have receiving email send notifications is managed by Thunderbird (if that is where you setup your email).
Hallo everyone. I have the same problem and missed an emergency today. No call tone, no threema messafe notification, no threema call notificstion and same issue with whatsapp. Ive toggled off all toggles i think would restrict messafe notifications. But still havr the issue. Seems it only works if i am on the phone and the screen is on. If the phone is on but without the screen on, notificatikns dont get through to me. Would much appreciate a review of the software since i believe it is not the threema or whstsap thsts the problem. In addition,
,on occasion, when i dial a number the receiver cannot hear me and i cannot hear them. Sometimes i hear the ring tone when i dial out but sometimes i dont hesr the ringtone.
Please confirm you have “cloud messaging” (“push notifications”) enabled under System Settings > System > microG Settings and also that “all check marks” show in the “Self-check” of microG.
The apps should be listed in the “cloud messaging” section that are registered to use the push notification service, it is a microG reimplementation of “Google Cloud Messaging” service that a whole lot of apps use.
Thanks for the quick response. Only one checkbox in the selfcheck section was not checked that being for the “Permission to This app to appear on top of other apps” . In addition, in the microG settings section, under cloud massaging, only telegram is listed as registered. Threema is not listed there at all. After the changes I tried having someone call call me with threema again but no success. Hmmm.
Near the bottom is some discussion of the different types of push notifications. Note that the “microG cloud messaging” IS “Firebase messaging”, so that option should allow Threema to register with the “microG cloud messaging” I think.
Update: I’m afraid no solution found to successfully resolve the problem. I did however manage to revei a notification of an incoming call a couple of seconds after turning the screen off,..so it looks like it worked. But if the screen is off for a longer period in excess of 10 seconds, then no notification is received when a new attempt to call the phone or message the phone from another device.
In essence, still have the problem.
I checked the box bit it does not make any improvement, still don’t consistently get notifications coming through. I mostly miss the notifications but then the odd one would get through. That would get through when I’ve just put the phone down and closed the screen. Im still hopeful the proactive Brax team are looking into it. So far theyve been very responsive.
The apps you mention (well except for “normal calls”) rely on “firebase cloud push notifications” which microG implements but which it being a native Google thing means that there is potential for some microG issue here.
Please check:
Settings > System > microG Settings > Cloud Messaging. Do the apps in question show there (esp after the Threema settings change you made)? If they don’t this is definitely the place where the issue is. Go into Long press app icon > App Info > Notification and make sure all notifications are enabled, also try to un-check Manage app if unused to make sure, and last, in Permissions make sure notifications, etc are all allowed that may be needed.
If you get all that confirmed, and still missing some things, then you can also increase the polling frequency for “microG cloud messaging” by going here: Settings > System > microG Settings > Cloud Messaging > 3 dots > Advanced and for each network you can reduce the time delay. This will then poll more frequently but I don’t think it should make a noticeable impact on battery.
Thanks for the suggestions. I confirm neither WhatsApp nor Threema are listed in the microG Cloud messaging list. I confirm I followed all the rest of your suggestions above and confirm all are checked or deselected as you mention above. However I believe I might have found the cause. I had downloaded Threema from the Aurora app store. This is the faulty version. I downloaded Threema from F-droid and it seems to work. And be careful not to have two Threema apps (1x Aurora and 1x F-Droid) on the phone at the same time. In addition I did the following: removed and re-installed the simcard without shutting down the phone. So far, although neither Threema nor Whatsapp show in the microG “Cloud Messaging” section under settings, it appears to be working now. I will monitor it for a few days and give an update. Lastly thanks to the Brax support team!, Oh yes, I also turned of DND completely like Cpub suggested. Cheers Cpub!
Hi Rik, Plamen,…I am afraid today the problem persists. With Threema message, Telegram an Whatsapp message and call. The normal Mobile call seems still remain working for now. No message notifications or rings unless the app is open (either in the background or foreground) and the screen is on.
