Is there a configuration option preventing to display somewhere else?

I am unable to find an app called “Google speech services”, is it called something else, perhaps “speech recognition and synthesis”?
Yes, Google changed the name

rik is there another way to download the stub ?
I again don’t have access to an Android Auto capable car, so I can’t test to confirm exactly how it works. But as I know the stubs are in this project:
GitHub - SolidEva/android-auto-stub: Android Auto Stub
Android Auto Stub
You will find the 2 .apk files in the speechservicestub and the gappsstub folders.
Hi, there alabamatoy, this is the way I made my AA work. Also gurdian241 help me with his instructions.
By the way gardian241, is the wireless still working? cause it never work on my end.
It is working for me but I chose to not install the stubs but instead use the actual Google apps with all permissions denied. Pretty sure it was an update to the Google app that fixed the wireless and the corresponding stubs are quite old
Thanks and God Bless.
Affirmative. That’s what I did to get it to work and it’s a tad satisfying to isolate the G-Daddy in prison and get the digital workings.
My Android Auto works, but there are glitches. If I receive a message, it will notify, but if I touch on the message, it will say something like reading messages not allowed while driving, and if I try to have it read the message to me, it will tell me that voice services are not available. Oh well, bother. My main purpose for AA was maps and Pandora, which both work very well. OnX maps also works nicely.
That’s a standard safety feature of your car’s head unit. Touch screens are normally disabled or restricted while a vehicle is in motion regardless of the source.
Could you do this previously with a standard Google-enabled Android phone (or an iPhone with CarPlay) in the same vehicle?
I thought I’d just post I finally got around to setting up my phone’s AA (as I’m getting close to finally switching off the iPhone) and it worked perfectly first time on the BraX3. Easy install with the 3 stubs (after updating AA in Aurora) and a bit of testing in the car (Mazda) - just in the garage - and the default apps like CoMaps worked fine and behaved as expected; I also could also access Phone, SMS, Music, apps and such, and they all responded to car controls. Nice!
Still need to put in an actual TTS/Voice Assistant, and test it out driving - and didn’t test a call as no sims in the phone yet - but basics all ticked off and operational.
Special thanks to @rik for his responses and advice in a couple of different places; and for consolidating the stubs in one place for easy access to download and install! Details here for anyone looking for it in the future:
Out of curiosity, should one continue to install updates to Android Auto that come through Aurora store - after the initial update to install it over the default iodé stub?
Or should you not install any further updates ongoing unless it breaks? On the basis of “if its working don’t give G an opportunity to break it for you”?!
EDIT: UPDATE
I spoke too soon with this - I’ve been using my BraX3 as dairy driver for a couple of days now and used AA for a bit too, with a couple of car journeys. However get some random control issues with apps and screen nor responding to car controls (screen navigation buttons/knobs)…
Car is a 2018 Mazda and it has a bonafide Carplay/Android Auto unit in it (not a cheap clone or generic one, as I had it installed myself. The car is designed to have it but they only came preinstalled in premium models at the time so had to have mine installed by dealer after purchase). I’m always connecting via USB same as I did with iPhone for last several years. So don’t believe its a hardware issue.
Pretty sure these issues are related to permissions and/or other settings, or use of G stubs - otherwise something with the particular apps concerned maybe?
Antennapod podcasts play fine and you can pause and restart, but when one finishes and it starts the next track the screen does not refresh and everything freezes up, although the audio of the new track continues to play fine.
I need to test this further on the phone to see if the same behaviour happens just running directly on the phone…
If a SMS arrives the pop up screen appears over the current app and any existing audio stops but then everything goes non-responsive and it wont respond to vehicle controls.
I am wondering if this is because Fossify Messages doesn’t have a permissions option to “display over other apps” - but AA does and its enabled and I assume its there for this reason (i.e. so it can overly apps that normally wouldn’t do that)?
Also found a couple of the nav buttons AA doesnt respond too, like the ‘back’ button - carplay with iPhone always did but have never used it for AA with a stock Google Android? I have (temporarily) an oldish Android at work waiting to go back to IT team, so may have to seecond it for a couple of days to do a rudimentary test in carcto verify that stock Android does function as I expect…?
OsmAnd seems to work okay but I have not given it a thorough test yet with using car controls mid-journey to change things, or music/podcast playing and SMS or Phone interruptions…
I am still sitting on the latest AA update from Google so may need to install that and see if it helps.
Yes, with a Pixel 4a, and can do it now on Wife’s Samsung G-something. But can’t on the Brax.
Did Pandora work without AA? My Pandora will open and immediately close. It does not work at all. The lack of being able to use Pandora is my one disappointment with the Brax 3
Hadn’t tried Pandora on my Brax3 until just now and it does crash immediately on launch for me also
Mine works, strangely enough, no problems….through several updates as well. The only problem has been the white lettering on an almost white background (see this post, which includes a link to the Pandora community post on same issue). But otherwise, it seems to work.
