SMS not working

SMS not working. Mint mobile. I activated (on a friend’s phone) and I received a text message from a friend right after that. Since then it has not worked to send or receive SMS. I finally broke down and called Mint Mobile.After talking to the AI Assistant and having me reset all settings and network settings, reset the APN and checking everything else I spoke to an actual person. They told me that my usage was restricted because the manufacturer locked the phone. They tried to call Brax but there was only an answering machine. Is it possible that I disabled some setting or enabled some setting that makes this happening ? I did play around with the setting alot but now I cannot find anything which could cause this. What do I need to do to get SMS to WORK? Thank you.

Hi.
We’ve had something similar reported by other customers using Mint.
You can check the thread here: No Mobile Data on Mint - #13 by blaster

Not sure why the device will show as carrier locked. The issue seems to get resolved in a day or two after activating, based on the user feedback we received. We’re trying to figure out what could we do to prevent those hiccups.

Hi. Wow! So this issue exists for others? So what shall I do? Thanks for the thread but my data works fine.

I’m not sure why the carrier will tell you that the phone is carrier locked, when it certainly isn’t locked. Let’s see if the issue gets resolved like the other cases, even though there are different issues experienced.

UPDATE: I once again took the plunge and tortured myself through an hour on the phone with Mint. They sent and I received texts fine from 6700 and vica versa but no texts went through or got receieved from any normal numbers. They insisted that they don’t restrict me but that it has to be phone related. Are there any settings in the phone, however obscure and burried which I might have turned on/off to cause this. I just really need to fix this because I cannot use the phone if I can’t send texts. Thank you

When I received my Brax 3 I bought a Sim card from Mint Mobile and signed up for a year unlimited service. It was half off and a fantastic deal. However, I could not send MMS messages to iPhone users. I jumped through all their hoops and spent five days on the phone with Mint Mobile plus did ALL the suggestions in this community threads. I learned a LOT through the process but in the end Mint Mobile could not get it working. I switched to T-Mobile and physically went into a store and got the messaging working. Thankfully Mint Mobile refunded my year subscription. Only bought a prepaid month of T-Mobile until I see how things work out. Still occasionally have iPhone users not receive pictures or long text but then I resend them and they get them. It has been a tough adjustment and I am unfortunately one that my wifi router does not work with my Brax3.

CC25. Thanks for that. I am actually not sure what the difference it btw MMS and SMS. I only use my actual phone number for verification, all other I do through VOIP. thanks

My understanding is the MMS is used to send pics and videos and long text. SMS is just regular text of 160 characters or less..

SMS = Short Message Service 160 characters or less.
MMS = Multimedia Messaging Service

This is very insightful. What makes it more interesting is that Mint Mobile is surfing on T-Mobile network. So there isn’t issues with the device that prevents it to use SMS/MMS on the network. It gets narrowed to the MVNO layer, which should be fixable by the MVNO. We will try to see how we could reach out to Mint Mobile.

Any chance you can ask them to email [email protected]?
That way we can surely get in touch. Mint hasn’t published a channel for queries from phone/tech companies.
