In Turkiye, when you buy a phone in another country, you have to unlock it (register) to use after certain weeks. Currently it’s around £ 847. I know it’s crazy but it is what it is.
One way to avoid this is transfer an old IMEI number to new phone.
My question is; would it be possible to buy BraX3 and modify it so it can be used without paying this stupid tax?
Yes, it is possible. During the beta there were times that IMEI was erased so we would have to write a new IMEI number to the phone. At that time it involved a complete wipe of the device and reload of iodé
Thank you, will keep this in mind.
This should help you in what you wish to do
Hello Xancudo. I was under the impression that one would have to flash LunarOS on Brax3 first to set the IMEI because IodeOS does not have permissions. Then re-flash IodeOS to lock in the IMEI so to speak. Am I so very wrong??
I believe that what you are recollecting is correct. I think it was also discussed in one of Rob Braxman’s videos. But I also recall that Iode was working pretty heavily on coding some kind of IMEI support as well. Someone like @plamen would have to confirm more about this.
With all of that said, I personally have not had any issues with IMEI, and so I have never actually had to run through the process.
I hear you. I really don’t intend on changing the IMEI either. However, erasing the IMEI and serial number (data wipe or format) was mentioned in one of your set of instructions concerning flashing IodeOS. It was also mentioned on the Mediatek website that this can occur on any chipset they make as well. They said that is one reason why they offer their flash tool to correct this problem when it occurs.
