Brand new Brax3 out of the box yesterday. Wifi does not connect, showing incorrect password, as with many other people. Downloaded the latest update using cell data, and it installed OK but did not fix the wifi issue. I followed the instructions to get the beta updater, and this worked and I installed 2 November update. Still no wifi.
At some stage overnight, the phone turned itself off. When I restarted it, it came up with the message “Your device is corrupt. It cannot be trusted and may not work properly”.
I hit the power button as instructed on bootup, and it boots the phone, but it shut down about 1 min later.
I have tried the factory reset via the iodeOS and told me it would wipe out all data, but it didn’t, so makes me think the factory reset is failing.
I have tried to use the ‘recovery’ option at boot, but this makes no difference.
Any other suggestions before I try to return the phone?
As @Igor_Shotsky says, need to initiate a replacement - that’s definitely usually a faulty (corrupted) device. Email [email protected] and make sure you put “device replacement” in the subject with your original order number so you’ll hopefully get a human support team response sooner…
P.S. Include link to the thread in your email as a reference that you already went through some troubleshooting effort.
We can replace the phone. That will be the easiest.
Transit time can make this a bit painful, though.
if you are a bit more techy, and would want to spare yourself some wait time, I can suggest that you try to manually update your iodeOS via spflash using firmware upgrade.
Check: How to manually install or update your OS on your BraX3
My conclusion is that the phone has faulty storage.
Used SP Flash to do a ‘download’. This worked, but failed to fix the corruption message.
Used SP Flash to do a full overwrite. This actually worked to fix the corruption issue. But also it wiped out my imei numbers and now the phone can’t make phone calls.
Used the SN tool in vein to reset imei, then read that you need to install Lunar.
Installed Lunar, and then used SN tool to restore imei - success!
Did a firmware update using SP, followed by doing a download of iode 6.9 - Success!
Couple of random system restarts as I tried to install some apps, but got there in the end.
Got to installing signal, and tried to do a device transfer - about 1.5gb of stuff. Transfer got 40% then brax3 crashed. Restarted and tried again, but also crashed about 44%.
So I did some testing with just copying and pasting files of different sizes. Some just between the brax3, and some via a connected usb drive. The bigger the file I tried to copy, the greater the failure rate, and by that I mean the phone just restarted after a few seconds.
I tried to connect to my linux mint, and windows10 laptops, and they did. But I could not copy anything to the phone. It just came back with a device did not respond message.
BTW, I could not get the linux versions of the tools to work. I am certainly no linux expert. I could only get the windows laptop to flash the phone.
SO now there is still no corruption message at boot up, but it is just unusable in this state, as if I try to do anything of substance, the phone just shuts down, leading to my conclusion that when the phone tries to write data en mass, it can not.
I have my RMA number and will be returning my brax3
I reckon that if it’s a faulty memory chip or some other hardware block it would need an inspection on the specific device with a custom tool and then an ad-hoc software patch if it’s fixable this way, better do whatever you can to send it back because it may get worse later
Hopefully not the case and it’s more software related to Iode OS or Micro G and the next updates fix it up because it dosen’t even let me Seedvault anything without crashing totally again, if so then Knew I should have waited after the first batches, shame had real potential to be something great.
New update 7.1 didn’t help anything still dm-verity corruption and crashing and all major apps like signal, session, video player apps, fennic and brave browser all crashing and it helped a little with the the boot loop problems and now just goes back to lock screen instead of powering off, maybe it still working some kinks out, but looks like its finished and won’t be functional maybe should have bought 2 or now will have to look into replacing or purchasing something more reliable or find a easy open source way to back everything up and just keep restoring.
The hard way is plamen to guide you through verifying the fault and then order the appropriate components from aliexpress and send it to a repair shop for them to replace the parts.
How long would you say the process may take for shipping (covered?) and repair, like a month for everything based of the the post author’s responses, because as of now there hasn’t been any response from support to my inquirers; granted offices are prob closed until next week?
We don’t repair and return your device. We just ship a new one. I can fast track this so there is no wait time for inspection (currently taking quite long with our fulfillment partner). Email us to get this processed.
Email Completed sir, certainly was worth the wait the first time appreciate your and Rob’s dedication. Do you think for future products the price range will stay stagnant or maybe reduce further to what it is now because it is for sure one of the top features of Brax products?
It’s about a balance between price and performance.
It is inevitable that we introduce products in different price ranges to accomplish product accessibility, as well as releasing higher end products.
I have to report, @plamen, that since I upgraded to 7.2 my phone has on several occasions gone through a totally random restart for no apparent reason. On the last two occasions it has given the error message that other people have spoken about where it says “Your device is corrupt. It cannot be trusted and may not work properly etc..” Could this be a bug in the 7.2 update or is it being caused by something else? George replied that he believes it is a hardware issue - is that right? I managed to get it going again by repeatedly holding down the power key but with the second occasion being more difficult than the first, it’s beginning to feel like it will only be a matter of time before it refuses to start at all. What is the latest news about this fault please and is there a fix to repair it? Many thanks.
Since writing this post the phone has repeated this fault again, this time randomly shutting down overnight so I missed my alarm call! Error message showing again and it took many attempts to get it going again. Once up and running everything seems to work fine but the random shutdowns with accompanying error message are clearly increasing in frequency. Has the cause of this problem been identified please? I am reluctant to ship it back to the US (I’m in the UK) if it turns out to be a bug that can be fixed with an update but if it IS a hardware issue I will have to return it. I’m assuming that you don’t have stock sitting on the shelf to do a quick replacement(?) so will I be waiting ages for the next batch to arrive? How long will that take? Please advise what is the latest on this issue. Many thanks.
We are not able to fix this via a remote OTA at the moment. The only viable way of fixing is to replace. We do have stock sitting for replacements, so processing a return is the way to go. I will ask support to email you and start the process.
