Brax3 shuts down

Today I was typing on Signal. Other days its reddit. Its as if I type too fast and the phone is doing too much else and shuts down.

It will completely lock up. I noticed today the curser stopped moving so I tried to tap the screen. Nothing.

So next I click the power button hoping that turning off the screen will allow it to catch up or whatever. No go.

So I try to hold the power button so I can select Reset. Nothing.

Eventually the phone goes black and after waiting a long time I give up and hold the power button at which point I find I’m turning it back on.

This is the third time at least that this has happened. So I will use this thread to track it.

Wait for the 7.2 update and we talk again.

The same happens to me; once in a while the phone spontaneously shuts down (even today, while I was speaking on the phone) but since recently, after shutting down by itself it also restarts by itself immediately. Would be nice if 7.2 will fix it.

@404usernotfound & @Linus another user has been talking about his device freezing up also. See this thread (note the thread title relates to a different issue) and my response to his issue (it might be of some use?):

There are also related issues with random rebooting (both while using it and when not in use/charging at night), see this thread:

The issue is created on iode’s board. I’ve added the additional details to the issue: Device rebooting (#63) · Issues · ota / issue-tracker · GitLab

Do you have any old, no longer supported, or unusual apps installed? If so remove them (all if multiple), restart phone, and monitor to see if issue reoccurs… This could all be caused by one bad app misbehaving that you’ve installed - might even be your favourite one.

Hmmm. I do have Several apps that I want but dont use often that I have force stop’d. You’re mention if misbehaving reminded me.of that warning I ignore that appears when I do that. :grimacing::melting_face:

I had thought it was an issue for THAT app alone. Now idk.

In my humble opinion, an application error that triggers a reboot or shutdown is not as severe as an error in the operating system.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about that - it’s unlikely to be related to the general ‘unexpected’ reboot issue… It’s just not the best way to stop an app (e.g. may corrupt data, etc) so should only be used if app misbehaves (e.g. locks up and you need to force it closed).

Why is your opinion humble ?

I have a few apps that I intend to learn how to use later and didn’t want to forget about them or their names. That way I dont have to search for them later.

I haven’t even used them once. I just force stopped until I’m ready to deal with it.

You can always save them as favourites in Aurora and not install them. FDroid not sure if you can (I haven’t found a way to, but maybe installing then uninstalling saves them in your FDroid apps list? Obtainium you should be able to set the app up (i.e. add the repository, etc) then just not install it.

Best practice is not to install any unnecessary apps you don’t need or aren’t using.

P.S. Anything Unusual or non-mainstream I keep a spreadsheet with the app, source, URL, etc, for reference for future clean builds… Essentially a variant of my table in my first post here:

Is anyone seeing any issues on the 7.2 release?

Not yet, but only 4½ days in with 7.2; but I have found my VPN disconnected one day for no apparent reason - so that may be evidence of an unplanned reboot in 7.2 (my uptime also suggests it might be).

My reboots under 7.1 had decreased from every couple of days initially to only 1-2 per week (sometimes less), so I’ll need about 2+ weeks to be confident of any change in that with 7.2.

EDIT: context/clarification.

My phone is back into rebooting a couple times a day in iode’ 7.1. Time to update!

Mine reboots more when I’m doing something with it like listening to local FM radio or using it as a hotspot.

Updated to 7.2 earlier this week and I have not noticed my B3 randomly shutting down… yet.

maybe next week I’ll stop back in and report again.

I’ve spent the most of the last two days on the phone, lol, and I haven’t had any issues.

I hadn’t considered that but I’ve found mime disconnected most days upon waking.

By the way I have charge controls set to atop at 80% and, unless its less than 50% at bedtime I don’t even plug it in. And even then I unplug at by about 10-11. So its not left on the charger like I’ve done with phones wince I got my first one

on 7.2 on my daily driver I’ve had uptime of 100 hours with no problems with mullvad VPN. I’ll keep watching to see if the device shuts down or the VPN cuts out

I haven’t had an issue since 7.2 either.
