The phone suddenly went dark, restarted, went dark, restarted, and I can’t get it to work properly, I tried the flashing thing posted here, and the tool seemed to be doing something…then an error message popped up. Now, the phone turns on, says BRAX for two minutes, then iode screen appears and nothing happens. I try to power down to redo the flashing procedure, but it keeps restarting automatically. I have no idea what to do, perhaps I have gotten over my head here. This is disappointing and frustrating. Any advice would be helpful! Thanks.
Was this after applying an update, or it was just in the middle of using it?
I turned on Bluetooth to connect some earphones, and the problem suddenly occurred.
@plamen I think they should contact [email protected]? (I work with iodé not with Braxtech)
I tried the SP flash tool fix twice, both times got an “unknown error” message (gotta love Windows), and when I rebooted the phone, the Brax logo comes up, stays on quite long, then the iode logo comes up, and that’s it. I try to power down the phone, but it keeps restarting and ending on the iode logo screen.
I am still able to access the recovery/reboot screen, and I have tried rebooting and factory resetting, but neither works. I keep coming back to the same place.
On the recovery screen, it says “Version 6.6 (20250803)” at the top, but at the bottom, it says “Install completed with status 3. Installation aborted.”
Does this imply an issue with iode or the phone itself?
Oh… If you saw the error message it actually worked and you saw the iode splash - had the OS installed. It does have a longer boot time than we’re used to. It sounds like you restarted the device while it was finishing up the installation process
I started the reboot process 8 hours ago, and I only see the iode splash screen. How long is this process supposed to take?
For anyone who might be interested (customer service? Tech support?), while my phone was stuck on the iode logo (for hours and hours), it became quite hot.
And, after the third flashing, I initiated a reboot, and a message came up indicating that installation had been aborted. Let me emphasize that I did not abort. The process appears to have simply stopped or failed.
There is a silver lining: After two days of frustration, what finally worked for me was taking my fancy new T-Mobile SIM out of the Brax3, and plugging it into my old iPhone. Now, I at least have a functioning phone again…
I don’t knnow if this is related; but there is a reboot issue associated with BT.
You mentioed the SP Flash tool. Were you engaged in any software modifications prior to this reboot or did you get the SP Flash tool in an attempt to resolve this after the problem occurred?
I grabbed the Brax3, unlocked with my fingerprint, turned bluetooth on, and the phone went into this endless restart-blank screen-restart mode. I looked here for help, found Rik’s guide to the SP flash tool, and have tried it three times. Now when I power on the phone, it gets to the iode screen and stays there, getting hotter and hotter.
I set up the Brax3 and used it on Wi-Fi with no problems for a week or so. I used bluetooth during that time, connecting various devices, turning it on and off, with zero issues. Everything seemed to be working properly, so I went to T-Mobile and got the SIM card. 48 hours later, the phone is malfunctioning.
Iode says talk to Brax Technologies. Brax Technologies says to go to the forum for help. On the forum, I am told to email Brax Technologies. I paid $300 and waited 9 months for a phone that doesn’t work, I dropped my very affordable mobile plan with Cricket to move to T-Mobile specifically because I purchased the Brax3, and I now pay $29 more per month (that’s nearly $360/year) for a provider I didn’t want to use, for a phone that doesn’t work.
If your phone is working, all the best to you, and you better pray you don’t have any issues, because it appears we are on our own here…
Reach out to the support email and be patient. If there is an issue, I am confident that you will get your phone replaced. I’ve seen Rob handle situations way worse than this. They just have a million things going on right now, so I’m sure responses are slow. I’m sorry about the situation. I’m sure it’s frustrating.
Yes, I am certain from the description this is absolutely a hardware problem. Very sorry you are facing that @Bampot .
Agreed. @Bampot you will get a replacement device. I am a long time Brax2 user and have been a customer of Rob’s for a long time. He will do right by you. You will get a replacement. I assure you!
It’s just a mad house for Braxtech right now with everyone going a million miles a minute. I’m sorry you are having to deal with this.
@plamen can you help @Bampot navigate the exchange process? I think this has to be a hardware related issue as they have done the full SP Flash “Firmware Update” process, and afterward it just hangs on the iode splash screen.
sounds like a hardware issue, yes. @Bampot , email the team at [email protected] if you haven’t already. You will get instructions on how to get the product replaced
Thank you, I have sent the email, and await a response.
I could be wrong, but I believe that spflash is useless without an unlocked bootloader on brax3 due to some a/b handoff issue with MTK chips that only they (OEM) can remedy. Where it works okay is a full flash of the firmware and OS because the process of the handoff isn’t necessary to go from nothing to full OS installed.
What I’m very unsure of in your case @Bampot is if you have the USB driver in your messed up installation you should be able to pull some data from the phone on your PC with the Android tools and command prompt/terminal. The USB driver should really be part of the bootloader program itself like on any PC’s boot menu - but that could be a security issue with phones, idk. Where or when the USB function is loaded in relation to the splash screen showing up is a mystery, but I would assume it gets loaded relatively early on in the boot startup like the display and physical buttons.
I’m hoping with Ubuntu Touch that they’ll have more of a PC type bootloader with the USB in the firmware accessible to the user as an option - password protected by the owner of the device, not just accessible to the OEM prior to OS installation.
I’m hoping you can get your phone up and running! ¯\(ツ)/¯
SP Flash Tool with the “full image” and using the “Firmware Update” option is used exactly in this case: to restore the a/b functionality (it will work the same if your bootloader is locked or unlocked before running SP Flash Tool, and in the end it will auto re-lock the bootloader).
As Bampot did run this process multiple times, and it still hangs at the initial boot screen, that is why I think we are dealing with a hardware issue.
