Brax3 stopped working, I am clueless

This is the ? Where does it end and re-lock? If it ended preemptively (relocked) then there should be a reading from USB to the PC (Android tools). If it is blank with no reading (unlocked) then spflash is the only option, no?

PS. Just a novice trying to understand… Not endeavouring anything other than learning this system a bit. :victory_hand:

This is all way, way above my head. I appreciate everyone’s advice, but I have already sent the phone back, and I am awaiting a replacement. I have to admit, though, my excitement about this project gone, as is my confidence in this product…

I am not involved on the braxtech side, but considering I know of approximately 5-10 people with an actual hardware defect like this seems to be, and approximately 4000 (+?) devices delivered, this is at most a .25% (.0025) defect rate. I don’t know standard manufacturer tolerances, but for a boutique offering this seems not terrible?

But you as the unlucky recipient of a “lemon” certainly does mean it has been quite sour. Sorry for the problems.

Good grief is all I can say.

My phone has also stopped working, but it will not even boot to the OS. It flashes the BRAX logo for half a second and goes black. I started to try to remove the battery, but it is glued in and I don’t have the tools to remove it. I let the battery go to 100% dead then tried again to charge and start the phone with no luck. I have tried hard restart with power/volume, tried to connect via US… no luck. The device only worked for about a week. I have been watching this forum to see if disassembly instructions would be posted, but I am unwilling to go farther at this point and need tech support to issue an RMA.

To conclude this saga and close this thread:

After sending in my faulty unit for a replacement, I had a couple of weeks to read through this forum and the Brax3 discussion over at Brax.me. It was not encouraging.

I decided to request a refund.

I understand this is a small company, a new product, and all the rest. Obviously, I never expected the phone to be flawless, but I never expected it to completely fail in the first week, either. However, this is not the reason I decided to give up on the Brax3.

Ultimately, it was the complete lack of any kind of support, and near total silence from Brax Technologies that killed this whole venture for me.

In my admittedly limited experience, the “use the forum to seek help” approach is a dismal alternative to tech support. Just look at the quality of some of the responses–half the questions don’t get properly answered, as people speculate on the best ways to side step problems rather than solve them. And besides Plamen, there does not seem to be any Brax Technologies tech support here. I appreciate Rik’s (iodéOS) efforts, as he was the only project member who actually made an attempt to (1) understand what my problem was, and (2) offer solutions. Brax Technologies never did either of those things, neither on the forum, nor via support email.

I really wanted this project to be a success, I have learned much watching Rob’s videos and understand the need for a privacy alternative when it comes to phones. I decided to dump my Apple tracking device over a year ago, and when the Brax3 came across my radar, I immediately ordered one (November 21, 2024). I waited patiently for over eight months, And, for the week that it worked, I was very happy, despite it taking quite a bit of time (three days) to familiarize myself with the Android-style environment.

Perhaps the long wait made the disappointment that much greater. But having a major malfunction, and no tech support, no customer service–and through this whole process, not even so much as a simple “sorry” from Brax Technologies–well, that was the final straw. The lack of communication was a dealbreaker. Brax promotes transparency, but this is more like invisibility. Really disappointing!

Hopefully, it will be smooth sailing from here on out. No hard feelings, good luck to the project, and everyone who bought a Brax3!

I understand your pain. I once used Windows 95 and immediately returned to PCDOS. I have advanced to GNU Linux and have never looked back. Perhaps some day you might find what meets your needs with high bandwidth phone communications. My order has not been received so I do not have the knowledge or experience with the BRAX 3 that you have. Good luck to both of us.

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed considering your endeavours with GNU Linux flavours. Keep us posted!

You may have a point. As you know iOde’ is locked down to the Brax3. As I read many comments it appears that Brax or someone must receive a code or other software so that a different OS can be installed on the same Brax3 hardware. Will that be Ubuntu Touch, Postmarket OS, Plasma mobile, Mobian or an updated PureOS? We will never know unless we can have permission to load these mobile distros on Brax3.

I didn’t get that there’s a gatekeeper… Isn’t there someone loading Graphene? Also, iodé is a fork of Lunar, no?

@pizzalinux1 The Brax3 is not locked down in that sense. See this link:

Thanks for the information. I got my information for my comment above directly from the iODe’ website. There are a few Operating systems that cold be useful. First is Makululinux. The Developer is friendly and is actively developing cutting edge improvements for GNU Linux based distros. He has also integrated easy to use ai language, graphic and audio solutions. Just ask him. The PureOS operating system is based on Ubuntu and is focused on removing excess bloat and Privacy. Contact system 76 ( located in USA) for more information.
