BraX3 - Supported Operating Systems

One of our core missions at Brax Technologies is to make privacy-respecting mobile tech more accessible—without locking anyone into a single way of using their device.

That’s why we’re committed to openly supporting the porting of custom ROMs to BraX3, as long as they are open-source and privacy-friendly. Below is the current list of operating systems officially supported or in progress for the BraX3:

Fully supported

iodéOS
  • Status: Fully supported
  • Major OS Version: Android 15
  • Installation: BraX3 ships with iodéOS by default. You can also install/update it manually following our guide.
  • Developer: iode
LunarOS
  • Status: Fully supported
  • Major OS Version: Android 14
  • Installation: Manual installation required. You can install/update it manually following our guide.
  • Developer: lunr

In Progress

Ubuntu Touch
  • Status: In progress
  • Installation: Manual installation required. A guide to install will be shared after the port is successful.
  • Developer: UB Ports

If you have a favorite OS you’d love to see on BraX3, let the developers of the OS know! We’re happy to support ports of open-source, privacy-friendly operating systems and are even open to funding development efforts. Ask them to reach out to us directly.

Let’s keep building the future of ethical mobile tech together.

I have used CalyxOS and Graphene OS in the past and trusted and enjoyed both. I’d love to see either of those OS paired with the BraX3.

I too would love to see GrapheneOS on the Brax3. Does anyone know if a port is in the works (officially or unofficially)?

So the only people who have access to the BraX3, is the Project owners, and the beta team. So no one really has access to the hardware yet, and therefor it’s highly unlikely other OS’s are on board.

More importantly, I would suggest you look at the historical for Brax1 and 2. There are not any major OS developers who support those devices. And while it would be greatly beneficial, and maybe that will change with BraX3, but who really knows.

Right now, one of the most widely supported devices that is not a mainstream manufacture is Fairphone. If the BraX3 was to get support similar to that device, then I’m sure you would see it. But only time will tell, and when you only produce a few thousand devices, it’s highly unlikely.

There is no port in the works - official or unofficial. It’s not likely that we would see one. It seems that their team is sticking with Pixel devices, and not interested in porting to other devices at the moment.

Yeah, GrapheneOS is just not gonna happen on Brax hardware…

CalyxOS is similar in philosophy and implementation to iodéOS. I’d like to see it supported as well but that’s not a big priority for me.

My preference would be a straight port to LineageOS. However it’s not a matter of “letting the developers of the OS know”. Someone with intimate knowledge of the device tree and hardware drivers would need to take up that effort: Frequently Asked Questions | LineageOS Wiki. So that sounds like you @plamen.

That being said, if you could port to LineageOS then the kind folks at the LineageOS for microG project would most likely quickly patch the ROM and then we would be off to the races. All sorts of third-party ROMs would materialize and you might get so many new phone orders that your head would spin. :face_with_head_bandage:

BTW thanks again for your one-man-band tech support for this project. I’m sure you’re getting paid handsomely for your effort.

Hey Peter. The process is always about collaboration between the OS devs and the hardware maker. We’re looking into LineageOS at the moment. We wanted to take our time with the ports and do one at a time. We have more time on our hands now.
